Eye dominance a factor on backhand style?

dlam

Semi-Pro
I'm right handed and left eye dominant and I find it easier to drive BH with two fist if I try one handed BH it's usually cause I'm late to the ball and need to slice or chip
I tried switching hands and playing lefty
And when I try hit a one handed BH from my left arm it's very natural I can see the net clearer without having to turn my head and my back stays pointed at the net and it's easier to hit a one handed backhand topspin drive

For the tennis players out there do you find having the dominant eye as your lead eye it's easier to hit one handed topspin drives?
Conversely if your dominant eye is the rear eye do you find easier to hit 2handed BH drives?

I'm right-eye dominant, right handed, and my 1hbh topspin is my most stable shot. My FH has been a disaster for a long time. It's only starting to get better, after a coach told me to try to hit it with a more open stance. I wish my right eye weren't so dominant. It's almost to the point that I could wear a patch over my left eye and it wouldn't affect my game at all.

I have seen eye dominance affect the stroke for many students when the dominant eye is in the back. Doesn't seem to hold true for all tho'. Some students appear to have greater visual judgement issues on the side where the dominant eye is in the front.

Are you sure that you are not late hitting a 1-handed BH topspin simply because you have hit so many 2-handed BHs, you are not accustomed to preparing early enough to hit a 1-handed topspin BH? If so, force yourself to prepare earlier on the BH side.

Have you tried keeping your head turned toward the net (toward the incoming ball) a bit longer? See if you can keep booth of your eyes forward until the ball is 2-3 meters away from you. You should have a good idea of where your contact point will be by the time the ball is 3-4 meters from you. When the ball gets close, try to fix your gaze right at the expected contact point and keep your head still. Hope that helps.

Let's test it out. Anyone want to guess which of my eyes is dominant? (I already know BTW.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vn33dLqZEE

left eye?

You may probably be right eye dominant given youve posed the question, but just based on your technique on both wings, you seem to have your head facing the wall much more on your backhand, suggesting youre trying to view the ball more with your left eye. On your forehand, your head is more turned, again suggesting youre using your left eye to see the ball. Probably off, but at a guess

Good guess. Yes, I'm cross-dominant.
