Ezone 98 v8 String Setups

I've been testing out Ezone 98 v8 for about 2 weeks, as a previous v7 aqua night user, so far I'm not convinced. v8 feels more muted than v7. In general, I liked dampened racquets. I would say v7 is dampened but v8 is more on the muted and 'vague' side.

My go-to string setups for v7 are MSV hex soft yellow 120, hex soft/bussard, Zero/Sync and PTP 125 yellow. When I put the same string setups in v8, I felt less feedback and didn't feel too much on the string bed, also less pop for some reason, maybe because of the lower RA.

I assume v8 needs a crisper setup to bring back the feel and feedback, and maybe slightly higher tension compared to v7. After trying Zero/Syc, Strike/PTP in the v8, I put in Tour Bite/Tour Bite soft in the v8 to give it another go.

For the people who are currently playing with the v8, what are your favorite setups?
.

I used Hyper G 17 on the v7 and v8. I feel the v8 is more responsive with Hyper G with the softer ra. Hyper G is my favorite string but I may try tour bite or 10JX next.

The same as with all Yonex's these days: as absolutely crisp as you can possibly go, and the softer the flex, the firmer the string bed. For the '25 EZ98, with that explosive beam but also medium-soft flex, I'd go with as firm a DT/string as you need, but no more, then slowly try and drop tension/firmness as you learn how to more finely control the frame (once you break through the honeymoon phase).

String examples:
  • Poly - More metallic/brighter colorations
    • Shaped: TB/TBS, BHS7T, Ocho Silver, Tour Sniper, Tour M8
    • Round: Hawk Silver or White, Max Power / Rough, Sync, Bussard
  • Nylon - More solid-cores and durability wraps, minimal to zero polyolephin
    • Syn Gut - OGSM, AKPCX, Lighting Pro, Dynawire
    • Multi - Multifeel (Black for better spin/snap), Micronite
  • Fusion - Triax, HDMX, Rexis Speed
  • Gut - Luxilon
Have at it and let us know how it goes!

Trying TB/TBS now.

I didn't really need crisp strings for the 22 version, 25 is just a little too vague. If trying strings can't fix the issue, I will most likely go back to 22.

I dig a softer feel. So far enjoying MSV Swift and M8, each full beds. M8 is firmer yet just as comfortable. M8 has an edge on spin but lower powered than Swift. Didn’t care for TBS in 1.25. I’ve got reels of confidential 1.20 and TB 1.15. Will give both a try, maybe that thin TB next, but I have some tournament matches in the next two weeks so may just stick to what’s working for now.

What did you sting the M8 at? I feel like 25 Ezone has a lot of pocketing already, worried about M8 will make it pocket too much. I like the M8 in slightly stiffer racquets with low tension.

I play with Hyper G 16L in the 25 EZ98. It’s heaven for the first 4 hours then I lose ball feel as the edges wear off. Also tried Hyper G 16L - Hyper G 17 Round hybrid but I didn’t feel much of a difference.

I’m curious if TB would work better for longer but a little hesitant to try it out as I don’t want any added discomfort. Maybe I’ll try the 17 gauge if I do.

Isn’t TBS a bit mushy in general?

my score card so far:

Mint Rev 1.25 @52: Wonderfully controlled and predictable, decent spin (less that I would have thought), good comfort, moderate to low power.
Mint Rev 1.25 @52 / Blue Strike @52: I felt was inferior to the full bed rev. A bit more power, but ess control, stiffer, less feel
Hyper G 1.2 @53 / Hyper G round @52: feels really good in this racket. Less feel than rev, but more power without significant loss of control
Toroline K-pop @ 53/52: spin is out of this world, but this is far too stiff and underpowered for me. May be with a lot less tension..

So hyperG and Rev are my faves so far. I want to try rev 1.2 next..

I heard that Rev is a muted string. Is it not as muted as Hyper G? I might have to try the Mint Rev.

of the 2, HyperG is definitely livelier and crisper, Rev more muted and a bit more comfortable I would say. Also keep in mind I am comparing HyperG 17/1.2mm and Rev 16L/1.25mm right now, so that's a big delta.

Just today I put k-pop on my new Ezone 98 Tour at 56/54 lb. And wow. It is superb.

Someone said it's underpowered with these strings at 53/52. I'm assuming that's with the regular (lighter weight) Ezone 98.

I'm sure swing style plays a role as well. I like to swing hard with lots of spin. I don't play well with lower tension. I find low tension better for slap shot drives but that's about it. It's hard for me to establish a deep, heavy rally ball with low tension. But maybe that's just me.

So I find the EZT 98 plenty powerful with this setup. I might even go higher than 56/54 on the next stringing. Also I have a leather grip on it plus about 10 grams added in the handle.

it was indeed – I did play with the 22 tour before but never tried K-pop on that.

IMO one of the big benefits of the 25 regular is that it's so stable that I don't need tour weight anymore..

I hit with a friend's regular Ezone for 10 minutes and bought my Tour the next day. The regular Ezone felt that good, even though it was lighter than I'm used to.

Strings that I have tried so far in the EZ98 2025: HG 16L, HG 16L - HG Round 17 hybrid, PT Rev 1.25mm, Tour Bite 17
I liked them in the following order:

TB17 > HG 16L > HG 16L - HG Round 17 > PT Rev

Tour Bite 17 provided more feel than others, more control than others (similar to HG 16L), and the most spin. Strung it at 51 lbs.
I played my best tennis with this combination as I felt confident with the superior control & spin plus the consistent stringbed that I was getting. I could still play with HG 16L. I'd say TB provided a bit more control and spin but splitting hairs here.

HG 16L - HG Round 17 hybrid felt slightly more muted than full-bed HG 16L but it did noticeably notch less/later.
Muted strings on this frame just didn't work for me. PT Rev was terrible in that sense although the string itself seemed fine and would likely work well in stiffer frames.

I think what @Trip posted above is spot on. No more reason to look or think further IMO. lol
