Facebook to go Metaverse in 5 years

If innovation provides people with happiness and freedom that’s probably OK, but if it seeks to track, trace, control and dominate you, then that’s not OK, particularly if this type of thing is here to stay for the future. It’s how things are being applied that’s the issue.
I would be interested to see what consumers will do with FB and other internet applications.
Elon Musk doesn’t seem too happy with FB or WhatsApp and says he prefers to use Signal and Clubhouse. Has anyone here tried these applications ?
On another note, I Was watching a video from YouTube content maker called Jean Nolan, called, “Inspired”, and he is suggesting that sometime very soon, perhaps this year, there will be a total internet shut down and reconfiguration. He is suggesting that when it reopens you will need to have a digital passport to access the WWW including your online banking. Interestingly Australia is trying to pass a digital identity bill on October 28. However Jean goes on to say that the original designer of the WWW is already working on an alternative encrypted platform.
Anyway feel free to comment, it’s good to be able to communicate with all of you here on TW.

You can't post in an online forum like this and claim to oppose social media at the same time. If anything you're letting Big Tech dictate the terms when you grant them the sole umbrella category of "social media." There's no meaningful difference between Facebook or Twitter and TTW or even email in content, only in numbers.

Of course the sheer scope of FB does make things rather complicated. Not sure if y'all can watch this but Scott Pelley's 60 Minutes interview with FB whistleblower Frances Haugen is worth a look/listen:

One thing that floored me: FB has nearly 3 billion monthly active users. That's more than a third of the world population (2.8/7.9 billion, if you wanna be anal), probably second only to Google/Alphabet's market share. I knew FB was big but not Google big (I was thinking closer to 1 billion), which in light of the leaked internal documents is scary.

I think my gal Liz Warren is right to insist on breaking up Big Tech a la AT&T, but since that ain't happening anytime soon the next best step would be to simply enforce existing antitrust laws which seems to have gained some bipartisan traction.

What I'm not OK with, though, is the demonization of FB as the cause of our social breakdown when it is in fact an extension of this fracture. And as we recently saw in India social media can be a tremendous force for good. The medium is not the message. and willful misinterpretation of McLuhan's, well, message serves no purpose other than obfuscating the real issues while letting us off the hook.

Yes but when you buy you buy with your actual money. In metaverse you will be spending virtual money. Infact people say cryptocurrency has hige potential here. In a way we already have virtual identities online but think of it at a different and bigger scale. Its a virtual existence, as real as you might feel if you were dreaming
Have you read The Neuromancer ?

…Look up what countries really are for example look at china or any "country" up at the SEC most have no clue its just a company run by the same inbreds.
I can’t possibly make heads or tails of what you wrote but I’m curious what was your point linking to a 15 year old preliminary prospectus for a debt offering by the China Development Bank (CDB) with your advisory “look up what countries really are” ? Do you have a problem with development banks? The CDB in particular***? General issues with loaning money to a China development bank? Was there something about this particular offering from 2005 ? I have no clue what your point or concern is. Assume I’m unfamiliar with topical conspiracy theories when explaining. Thank you.

***Fixed income investors seem into it in mid-2021.

They need to perfect VR AR headset hardware and design, software, and gain mass adoption within 5 years?
Its so obviously another form of control, but it is clearly the next step and I am more curious to see what is possible with this tech.
