If screaming is going to be allowed, let’s keep it within the concept of fair play. No player, even Sabalenka, should be allowed to have their exhausted scream continue beyond their side of the court. I’d love to see Sanalenka deal with her own noise coming back at her just as she prepares to hit the ball. My guess, she’d be the first one to scream “unfair” play.
If intimidation by making one’s presence noted by screaming until that player’s ball has bounced on their opponents side of the court, talent based on racket skills, strategy, physical endurance, and composure will become less than necessary, compared to the all important SCREAM distraction.
Referees admonish fans when excitement causes some to make a call incorrectly prior to a player hitting the ball, yet they allow certain players to distract their opponent by screaming well after the ball has crossed the net.
Good for you Madison!!
Note to the WTA.. if release of breath by screaming is allowed, keep FAIR PLAY in mind. Keep the screaming, or audible exertion, ON THAT PLAYER’S SIDE OF THE NET. PLEASE. Give them an initial warning and there after a point for their opponent.
Let’s bring tennis back to include “all” talented players on the court; vs one notably distracting their opponent unfairly. Otherwise, distraction noise (including tapped screams of their opponent) should be allowed to be played back in the same manner in which it’s required to receive. Fair is Fair.
Thank you!
