Regret I didn't know then what I know now. Anyway, here is the story.
My son plays in junior tournaments almost every week, and he breaks more than one strings weekly.
I was looking for a used stringing machine on FB marketplace, and found this Luxilon Alu Power 200m reel that is sold at $140.
Since it is sold by a local coach, I did not suspect it can be a fake product. Actually, I didn't even know that there are fake strings on the market.
Bought it without any hesitation, and it was brought to my string guy, who has been stringing rackets over 30 years.
I was shocked because immediately after he saw the reel, he confirmed me it's fake.
I came home and compared it with my other luxilon reels bought from authorized dealers, and here is what I found.
- No texts printed on the string
- The label printing is a bit blurry compared to the original one.
- No batch number sticker on the packaging
- The stringer says the color is off too.
- I cannot find identical products anywhere on the web.
I reached out to the seller for a refund, and he is very reluctant to take it back.
He is not willing to tell me where he bought it from, and he says that the same string is used by himself and his son.
He is trying to convince me that it is not fake and that I will know the authenticity if I use it.
Since it was bought for my son, I am not willing to take the risk putting it on.
My conclusion is that you should buy strings from authorized dealers... A lesson is learned with $140.
Here is the picture of the product.
