Fake 'painted' ads on court.

I think by now most will have caught on to the white fake 'painted' ads on court.
Currently it's Pirelli's turn.

When they do the full 360 panoramic view the ad suddenly disappears. LOL!

What do you think of them?

Hockey already doing that nonsense. At first it was really annoying, but honestly I don't notice it anymore unless I focus on it.
I don't mind ads like they have plastered all around the courts, they come with the territory and generate the revenues needed.
It's when they try cheesy fakery to try to con people into seeing something that is not there in reality that I find off-putting.

I mean how stupid do you think we are?

I don’t think they think you’re stupid. They do it to build awareness of the brand.
I like to Google those brands just to make sure I’m not missing out on any cool new products.

Well I have a few things to say about that.

They are trying to make it look like the logo is painted on the court.
Why do that?
That is a form of deception. Why would you want to buy a product from a company
that engages in deception?

Are you serious about Googling the brands when you see their name?
You don't have better things to do with your time? :)

There are a ton of brand names advertised around the court.
Do you also Google their names?

I would like to see painted ads on the players. They should play naked, and the virtual ads should be overlaid on them. If you really want to see them naked, you will have to attend in person. This will greatly drive up the number of spectators and revenue for the tournaments.

Yes. It’s how I learn about brands and products, through advertisement. They make it look painted on because it looks better for TV and they can easily change the ad. Similar to how in soccer next to the goals there are virtual ads that look painted on but are digital. In baseball, they have something similar behind home plate, get the ad out without disturbing to players.
I like to google these brands because they are brands that deem me as their target audience, so I want to see what they’re selling. You could probably make a fund of companies who advertise at these tournaments and make a nice return :)

I’m ultimately trying to get at that no one thinks you’re a stupid as they aren’t trying to trick you into thinking they’re painted on. They just want your attention to place their brand into a higher position in your consumer mind. I’m just doing all I can to get you into a Kia

OK, if you insist. :)
But I still think it's a cheap trick.
And rather than entice me to Google their name, I'll run in the other direction just to avoid them.

It's a cheaper and quicker way for TV to earn money from various companies by using only a small virtual spot on the court. They can change it to whatever sponsors they like and make more money from more companies. Google Pixel, Pirelli, etc. They don't have to paint the advert on the court and just put it there digitally for TV viewers.

If you're easily disturbed by virtual images, the future for you will be a grim one

vokazu I know about all the things you mentioned.

Both of you are missing the whole point of my post.

It's deceptive advertising, plain and simple.
They are trying to pull a fast one with people's perceptions.

I don't have a problem with using overlays/virtual images etc.

But don't try to be deceptive about it.
Don't try to mess around with people's perception of what they are seeing.

Use an overlay/virtual image that people can immediately see is obviously an overlay.
When they try to TRICK people into thinking the overlay is paint on the court they have crossed the line with me.

Their advertising has backfired with me.
I would never buy a product from a company who uses trickery on the public.
