Famous people playing adult leagues or tournaments?

ty both for your comments,... i need opposing views to avoid being trapped in an echo chamber...
If I had political opinions as bad as him I’d keep quiet too
plz elaborate?
Kinda been confused about what his platform actually is. All I ever hear him do is attempt to insult other candidates and spout conspiracy theory nonsense.
my current thinking is that depends on what media sites you're listening to... ie. some will highlight only the obnoxious remarks... without really diving into why he goes on the attack at times...
thx for the link... will review.
[edit] paywall! :(

In the Trump world, calling people names and translating Mein Kampf into English for stump speeches is the way to get nominated in the GOP. Sadly, they all need to engage a little bit so they are not written off. DeSantis tried to walk the fine line between red meat propaganda and more reasonable actual policy, but has apparently failed.
ironically i started watching the debates to follow desantis... was a fan for a while... then stumbled on vivek who has, atm, is winning me over...

true... but since he tries to go out of his way to answer questions from a place grounded in his philosophies (which seem universal across red&blue), it seems like he would be able to convince "center leaning" folks on both sides to support his cause..
for sure, his opponents will be attacking his lack of political experience (ie. getting both parties working together), but his defense of that seems to be holding up (eg. "i'm not bought and paid for, like <insider political attacker> you are")

Vivek is awesome. He has my vote

Last night, my wife and I were watching episode 2 of the second season of The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. Early in the episode, the main character, Mickey Haller (aka, the Lincoln Lawyer) visits a tennis club to get advice from a friend about a legal matter. In that scene, there are two people playing who look totally awful (bad grips and form), yet it's portrayed like they are good players. Typical Hollywood. Then, later in the episode, Haller revisits the club and has a scene where he's practicing his forehand against a ball machine to work off frustration and establish a plausible alibi as another activity is happening elsewhere in the show. When he started hitting, I literally did one of these moves:

Surprisingly, the actor that plays Haller, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, looks like he really does know how to play tennis! His form looked legit, and with his looks, he reminded me of a recreational version of Carlos Moya.

In this article at https://flaunt.com/blog/manuel-garcia-rulfo, he says:

When not acting or snapping photos, what’s a day in the life for Manuel Garcia-Rulfo?

I play a lot of tennis, and if i'm not here in LA, I’m in Mexico with my family. I started this little farm where I grow limes, so if I'm not working I'm usually on the ranch.

Also, another actor that has a decent tennis game that I don't think has been mentioned yet is Timothy Olyphant. Here's a clip of him playing a mixed celebrity match against Gavin Rossdale, who is supposedly a 4.5:

I also thought his tennis lesson for Rich Eisen seemed to show that Olyphant knows the proper form:

Olyphant was a college athlete as a swimmer for USC, and his daughter played on a tennis scholarship at Cal Poly. In a recent interview with Rich Eisen, he talked about how he was one of those tennis players that always hated pickleball. However, recently with his knee giving him trouble, he ended up playing doubles with Sam Querrey at his club and kind of got hooked. I'll forgive him for that transgression since he's a hell of an actor and seems like a cool dude:

Damn. That was a nice little rally there.

Not sure about the rest of you, but I prefer tight regulations for some things:
e.g. baby formula, products that have known links to cancer (should have warning tags), organic foods, etc.

Some would prefer it being a free-for-all on labeling and allowing anyone to add 'organic' to their products whether they are or not in reality.

Some dream of eat-your-own-kill capitalism … nature, you know the nature where animals are eating other animals at night. No handouts in nature except in my back yard.

Two possible US models:
1) do anything you want then lawsuits so lawyers get paid
2) some rules then lawsuits so lawyers get paid

When will they allow AI apps and AI lawyers to be used in court?

Law firms are not going to like this kind of competition from non-lawyers.

Just a matter of time before AI becomes polarized and separates into two factions … sure hope it’s more sophisticated than red AI and blue AI.

will be interesting to see who the dem's choose to run... no chance biden is running again... any public speaking engagement will have him bumbling over his words
and will definitely be interesting to see how someone like vivek overcomes the popular trump vote.
a few folks have speculated posed a trump/ramaswamy which would be an interesting twist (eg. 4y under trump, then likely 8y under his own presidency)... but according to vivek his goal is to win as pres, not as vp...
Just curious, where did you get the idea that there is "no chance Biden is running again ?"

This is all I need to know about Vivek:

Yep. You know he’s caught when he resorts to calling the interviewer sad and pathetic without ever disproving the allegation whatsoever.

Politics aside, the article suggests that it was a merit-based, not need-based, scholarship. If that is the case, I don’t see the issue with him taking something that he earned.

what exactly did he do wrong?
he took a merit based scholarship...
...and if that's the only thing they can find from the tax returns he himself disclosed... i'm good with it.

i'd like to see all current and future candidates disclose all their earnings that way (before and after office), and see if the only questions we have can come up with is, "did you deserve to take a few thousand dollar merit based scholarship?"

no idea if "inside job" is the right word... but i did see footage of security guards opening the door to allow folks to enter... guess truth lies somewhere in the middle.

No my friend … no middle here. Cops and security guards were overwhelmed by the numbers, only two choices: 1) bloodbath 2) try and let it play out.

I will leave it there … maybe we will all find out soon what life looks like with Vivek’s 75% less government, the deep state FBI and CIA are no longer standing watch. I’m sure it will be great. Good luck … I only need 10-15 more pickleball years.

Yea the inner cities will have to get opium elsewhere. Going to be rough.

AS a lawyer, I thoroughly endorse this!

Several of the top paddle reviewers have year end paddle awards :-D … 2023 was a big year for change. We got spin. Paddle nerds … have to include me  … had a lot to keep up with.

Scott Hartnell (longtime Philadelphia Flyer and Nashville Predator) joined the South Jersey 4.0 40+ league this year. Dave Spadaro (Philadelphia Eagles social media director) has a 4.0 rating and has frequently played in the 4.0 league, although I don't think he's in it this year. Melissa Stark (longtime ESPN reporter) plays as a 4.5 in Eastern NJ under her married name. Dave Leno (play-by-play for ESPN college sports and Philadelphia Union soccer) plays in the Philly district 4.0 league.
Dave S is a member at my local club. I’ve played him once. He is a fierce competitor!

Wow I stumbled across rare footage of War's keyboard player taking on a pickleballer (could this be the birth of pickleball?)!

Wow I did not know about that, and I play on those courts! Looks like that was a 4.5-level singles tournament, and he won four matches to take the title!

His twin sister played D1 tennis and he was apparently a pretty good junior himself. Was aiming for college tennis, as well, until a growth spurt made college basketball a possibility.

According to Alan Rickman's diary, Daniel Day-Lewis plays tennis.

Rickman was not a fan of Djokovic.

[The] wrong man [Djokovic] – all triumph and ego – won but Björn Borg came over and asked for a photograph.
