Farewell Tennis and Talk Tennis

I have decided to let tennis go for now after reaching the 4.5-5.0 level, dont know if I will ever go back to it, pursuing a career of professional Basketball, i played ball since 6 and gave it up at 12, I am just getting back into Basketball again at 15 which isnt too late, I don't think. I am going to practice at least 3 hours a day, to recatch lost time, I hit 12 3 point shots in a row today which shows i have still got it, and I hopefully if i practice this often i will become as good as I can be and when i was 8-11( where I scored more than 40 points a game) I was dumb to give Basketball up because I was going to make it to the pros easily. Hopefully this all works out and I get to college in America and Get into the NBA. Thanks to everyone at Talk Tennis, you've all been great. Watched a movie called Rebound: The legend of Earl "The Goat" Manigault. Greatest movie I have ever seen, he is the greatest basketballer that ever lived, was only 6'1 and could touch the top of the backboard, was going to make it before he got involved in drugs, and never realized his potential, Kareem Abdul Jabaar said Earl was simply the best, after he kept clean from drugs, he dedicated his life to helping kids play ball at the now famous Rucker Park NYC, he died at age 53 from heart failure in 1998. Realized how much I loved Basketball and hopefully I can get back my lost time and become better than I used to be. I just hope it's not too late. Good luck to everyone with their tennis.

Your Avatar is wildly annoying. I don’t believe you used to score 40 points per game when you were 8 unless it was on a 3-foot Toys-R-Us hoop in your living room. Three hours a day will not help you “recatch lost time.” That is a normal amount of practice for a serious player. Do you play for your high school in tennis or basketball? Do you do anything but post about tennis equipment?

Get real. Play the game. Have fun. Be a kid.

i played varsity in highschool, i like tennis more cuz i dont have to deal with weak willed teammates., i once scored 30 points and double digit rebounds and assists, also known as a triple double, but we still lost.

Can anybody in Australia dominate their respective sport before they're 15?

Professional basketball and you haven't played for the last 3 years?

Is this real? This can't be real.

A lot of deluded people come on this board-he may be one of the most deluded of the lot (that I can recall). Put him on the court in a summer league game with the top 15-year old players in his area...that may, literally, jar him into reality.

Maybe set your sights on the Australian pro leagues for now, the NBA is a different story unless you're Andrew Bogut....

4.5-5.0 at age 15 and would rather earn a scholarship for basketball (which would be much tougher to get in my opinion). Good luck.

I went from being a basketball player to being a tennis player. I did play a game of HORSE between my two tennis matches at the club the other day. I used to be able to dunk but now I can barely tough the rim but both tennis and basketball are awesome games. Why not play both while you can????

True. Not TOO late, but a little late. But if you still have the talent, you can still be a good player. NBA potential? Who knows?

I was dumb to give Basketball up because I was going to make it to the pros easily
You were going to make it to the pros EASILY, just thinking how good you were at 12? Get real.

I don't think I am going to practice at least 3 hours a day, to recatch lost time
Get real. 3 hours a day is what a normal player traisn everyday just to be fit and sharp. If you wanna recatch lost time, you gotta train even more than that. But 3 hours a day seems right for a 15 years old.

But above it all, from a fellow basketball player (and by the way, former professional player in Argentina), keep on the nice work, and bust your ass off. You may make it. Maybe not NBA, but why not NCAA? And you'll have always the southamerican leagues and the asian and european leagues (Russia, Israel, Greece, cause Italian and Spaniard leagues are the best leagues besides NBA in the world, and way harder to succeed there)

By the way, your profile says you're a 5.0-5.5 player. If you're a 5.5 player at 15, then pursuit a tennis career, and not bball ;)

Of course, if that's even real.

I beg to differ. The Italian league has fallen lately ,and with great names like Majikauskas playing in HEBA I think we have the second best leauge in Europe.
Besides, after 5 or so years when this poster will become "professional" the Russian league will be the best.

If this 15 year old kid is really a 4.5-5.0 level player then why isn't he playing in and possibly winning things like the juniors at the Oz Open or US Open? If he is a 4.5-5.0 player at 15 he should be ranked very highly in his country and should be looking at full ride scholarships with the tennis program of any school he likes. He is probably more like a 3.5-4.0 player but after reading the USTA descriptions of the playing characteristics of different playing levels thinks he is in the 4.5-5.0 category.

Of couse he isn't really a 4.5-5.0 player.

The guy I take lessons from is a 5.0 and has a great all-around game including an incredible variety of serves and amazing hands and touch at the net. If some 15 year old kid who is not nationally ranked can take a game off him I'll kiss his ass from here to OZland. In other words, from what I can tell, LaBomba is (was) an expert at blowing smoke. His last post with all the NBA nonsense just reinforced that to me.

Actually I am nationally ranked, i almost beat a guy who was 18 in the Margaret Court Cup National Grasscourts teams event (which me and my team won). I lost to him 5-3, who is ranked in the top 200 in Australia and he made it to the finals under 18s singles and he lost to a guy 7-5, 6-3 who played in the Aus Open juniors this year, so I think that proves I am a 4.5-5.0 player.

You're way off. To win the junior major titles one would have to be just "a tad" better than a 4.5 or 5.0 level player. As an example, Roger Federer won the Wimbledon Junior singles at age 17 or 18. I'm PRETTY SURE he was better than 5.0 at the time.

Ho, ho, ho. I thought you were long gone. Apparently this thread is just a sorry attempt to draw more attention to yourself.

Sorry, I still don't buy any of the crap you are unloading. Pull the other one.

Good luck to ya. You'll have a hard time getting to the NBA, much less making your school's squad if you need to practice to become "as good as I used to be around age 8-10." - and you're 15 yrs old.

BTW - If I had a dime for every player on the playground that can make 12 3-pointers in a row in practice, I'd be a very rich man. Besides, if you're playing overseas, your shooting much closer in than the NBA 3-point line. Not too impressive.

As for making it to the pros (NBA) easily? Hah! No one ever makes it to the NBA easily. There have been a lot of hard-core ballers that have been broken by that dream.
