i know everyone is going to say the obvious answer (Nadal), but I swear Adrian Mannarino is faster, dude literally tracks down some balls that are 95% of the time winners against everyone else (spare Nadal and Djoker)

De minaur is pretty fast

I can't believe some of the fastest players out there are 31+

Surely there are some fast players ages between 19 and 31

Well, for one, top speed and average speed don't tell the full picture. Possible more important is the how fast you react and get up to top speed. Nishikori has got to be near the top of that list. Also puts into perspective how fast 6'4" Martavis Bryant is, clocking-in with a top speed at nearly 8 MPH faster than the fastest guys on that list.

No, I want his movement to be back to where it was. I do want him to try and shorten points a bit more (bit like talking to the wall, I know) as I don't think his hip will any longer withstand the kind of grinding he used to do.

Years ago Brad Gilbert said Murray had world class speed.

Unfortunately its not possible to get movement back to pre-2017 levels, due to both the injury type and age...
But he do needs to to shorten points, he has the variety and shotmaking abilities to do that.... Still keeps on pushing, which makes me confused sometimes

I didn't know they measured Bryant running with a racket in his hand while playing a professional tennis match.

I've seen them all in person and nobody beats Chang. The closest would be Monfils, but he's helped by a huge stride. Chang was 5'8 and covered more territory faster than Monfils, IMO.
Ah yes, the famous romancing Chang as the fastest ever player rears it’s head again. Next up we will have Limpkinhitter telling us that Laver was a better athlete than Federer.

I accept that he was fast for his time, but in today’s game I don’t think we would be talking about Chang.

Chang may have the quickest stride but due to his size and short stride would not be faster than half the tour day.

Speed is way different from movement in tennis.

Monfils will leave De Minaur for dead in a 100 or 200 sprint but for movement De Minaur is up right up there with the best.

His agility means he can take off quicker and contort his body to slice / dig out near impossible balls.

Nadal like Monfils looks very fast for top end speed too.

In his younger days Nadal was so off the charts fast I did consider him to be a Area 51 hybrid!

As far as quick tennis speed goes, it's Djokovic, followed by Nadal, then Murray. Monfils needs time to get going. Once he's moving, he's the fastest.

As far as all-time greats go, I agree that Chang was that fast. The guy won a slam title being 5 ft 8 with a garbage serve. That dude could fly. Peak Hewitt was blazing fast. He was the first guy that I saw that could run down Sampras' net shots.

Imagine Christian Coleman who has the world record fastest 40 and 60 yard times on a tennis court

There is no way Monfils is faster than 2005-2008 Nadal. People here mention Monfils (?) just because they are Fed fans and don't want to put Nadal as the best in a particular domain. The only exception is Nadal being the best on clay, but that is so obvious that even Fed fans have to admit it.

Min 2:10. Monfils has never been so fast as Nadal in that point.

1:01 is pretty impressive, regardless of Gael anticipating the shot beforehand. That's some court coverage. Plenty of active players think Gael is the fastest as well. Calleri was really impressive when retrieving drop shots from behind the baseline as well.

Hewitt was faster than both but never gets mentioned. Stop.

Chang would be winning majors today. Stop overrating this garbage era.

Is nobody going to mention Mannarino besides me? Dude is lightning quick especially on clutch points.

It's between Monfils and Djokovic. Nadal is incredibly fast, but Djofils can both replicate their superhuman sprints more consistently.

There's a difference between average speed, acceleration and fastest speed. Nadal definitely beats Monfils in the first two, but Monfils would likely beat him in a straight line 100m or 200m dash. Nadal can change direction, react and accelerate faster than Monfils, and that's why his defense is on another level. Those are more important in tennis anyway since you will rarely reach your top speed unless you're chasing a drop shot from one end of the court to another. It's not a knock on Nadal to say Monfils edges him in top speed.

He just didn't have as many weapons as Nadal. Look at what Roddick's coach had to say, that Lleyton may be faster but he has to grind way more during points and can't end them as early as Nadal.

Lleyton was quicker than Nadal but nowhere near as good if it makes any sense.
