Favorite major tournament of the decade (2000-2009)

My favorites:

2001 Wimbledon: A lot of drama throughout the fortnight. Federer vs. Sampras, Henman's best chance at Wimbledon, Ivanisevic winning in the end

2002 US Open: Sampras' last major and his last match against Agassi

2004 Wimbledon: Great quality matches between Federer-Hewitt and Federer-Roddick

2005 AO: Federer, Safin, Hewitt, Roddick, Davydenko, and Nalbandian were all in great form, along with an aging Agassi in the mix. Federer vs. Safin SF is probably the best match I've seen. Hewitt vs. Nalbandian had a lot of drama as well

2009 French Open: Great to see tennis history in the making.

I only started watching tennis in 2005 so it's hard for me to judge the whole decade but I've enjoyed Wimbledon and the French Open the most.

AO 05 -- top 4 seeds make semis, Hewitts amazing run
AO 09 -- a couple marathon early rounds, Baghy revivial, and of course the epic semi and final
Wimby 01 -- countless 5 setters, rain delays, Goran finally winning
Wimby 04 -- it seemed destined that Roddick and Federer were going to play in the finals
Wimby 07 -- Nadals epic journey, Gasquets comback, Soderling's imitation, rain, and the 5 set final
USO 01 -- Roddick v Hewitt, Samp v Agassi. A real great tourney until the semis
USO 03 -- bias cause Roddick won, but some good matches, a lot of in form players

Aussie Open 08 for me. A ton of great matches and also the final felt refreshing and different.

Also enjoyed the Aussie Open 05 and Wimbledon 08.

AO 2005 - Epic semi finals and Hewitt's run
USO 2001 - great tournament and Hewitt won
USO 2005 - Americans go deep (Blake, Agassi, Ginepri) Agassi-Blake match
Wimby 09 - Hewitt's run, great QF and R16, Final was epic
RG 2009 - ton of upsets and great 4th round match, lots of drama
Wimby 2001 - GORAN

Wimbledon 2001 for obvious reasons.

The Ivanisevic/Henman semifinal was one of the biggest roller coaster ride matches I've ever experienced (from my TV set, of course...lol). And then to finish it with the incredible final against Rafter...unreal.

And let's not forget when he first announced he was still alive against the upstart Roddick in the 3rd round starting the series of shirt tosses into the crowd after every win.

Runner-up for me would be the 2006 Australian Open, which turned out to be surprisingly dramatic. Hingis's return and Federer having each opponent lay everything on the line from the 4th round on...and then crying out of nowhere in the speech after winning the final.

For me it was probably Wimbledon 2001. That tournament had a lot of cool stuff.
Goran coming in as a wildcard and winning that epic final over Rafter was Perhaps my favourite tennis moment. You also had Federer taking down Sampras, the only true meeting between the two (not to mention the Sampras Barry Cowen close call). Then there was the Henman 3 day semifinal, with Timmy leading two sets to one, bagelling Goran and then losing. Also Tim's epic battles with Federer and Todd Martin.
Rafter beating Agassi 8-6 in the 5th.

Another slam I liked was the 2005 US Open. All those 5 setters that Agassi played back to back, including the infamous Blake quarterfinal. I remember the Coria vs Ginepri match, and some great Haas matches too.

No love for AO 08? There was some great matches there - Hewitt-Baggy marathon, Tipsy pushing Fed to 10-8 in the 5th. Not to mention Tsonga taking over Australia.

Also AO 06 for Mar-cos Bag-dat-is. (clap clap clap-clap-clap)

Also AO 07- even if you're not a fan of Serena, you have to respect the run she had in that tournament.

Wimbledon 08 had some great matches - Murray's comeback vs Gasquet and of course the epic final.

Same with Wimbledon 07, Gasquet's comeback vs Roddick, and a great final as well.

USO 02 w/ the run Pete was able to make when no one believed he could do it anymore.

Would have had FO 09 on the list, but NBC ruined it for us Americans by tape delaying coverage. So we missed two of the best matches of the tournament live - Soderling/Nadal and Federer/JMDP.

If YEC counted as a major tournament for this topic, the 06 YEC would be on here - for Blake's great run, of course. :D
