actually, to be perfectly honest it doesnt affect me. however, i do worry about the effect violence etc has on other people. many young kids in their teens today, affected by western culture over here, are heavily into drugs. brother (in college) tells me about it all the time. he doesnt believe that violence has an effect on viewers, i do.Okay, now I'm actually disturbed you watched Clockwork Orange . . . .
anyone else liked "Lives of Others" (2006)?
Certainly, i am not sure there really is a "favorite movie", considering our tastes would change as we grow, as we learn more about life.Very good movie. I wouldn't say one of my all-time favorites, but definitely an excellent movie. Ulrich Mühe was outstanding.

I liked Castaway a lot. For that matter anything with Tom Hanks in it.
haha. bro and dad are heavy movie buffs. i sometimes get to see something from their collection. but i am nowhere as refined as them. i have my weaknesses ... like any movie with Julia Roberts in it!Hmm. Either you're destined to be the next Pauline Kael, or uhm you're not really nine. I'm just saying.
Yes, Lives of Others = good movie
You mean as in her criticism for violence (as in Clockwork Orange). last year, my dad forbid me from seeing Citizen Kane cos it has too much violence. then he put on "A Bugs' Life" for me. Can you believe it, it was all about ants going to war with one another!Hmm. Either you're destined to be the next Pauline Kael, or uhm you're not really nine. I'm just saying.![]()
Stick to cartoons and Disney flicks, kid. That way, you'll be sheilded from the grim realities of life. You mean as in her criticism for violence (as in Clockwork Orange). last year, my dad forbid me from seeing Citizen Kane cos it has too much violence. then he put on "A Bugs' Life" for me. ROTFL. of course. Did you have to spoil it by askingYou must be joking, right![]()
Judging by most of the responses in this thread, I'm guessing the average age of those who've responded so far is about 16? Am I right?![]()
Darwin's Nightmare:
The movie is a good documentary on the weapons-for-fish trade in Tanzania; the cargo planes arrive daily with weapons from Europe, and take-off back to Europe with 50 tons of fish... while the locals are starving for food.
I found the bonus director's interview -- excellent, and the bonus documentary feature about the 1997 slaughter in Rwanda -- powerful as well. You'd need about 3.5 hr. to watch all three of them. It should be a required watching material for all high-schoolers who grow up spoiled, and don't know how other people's lives are.... Oh, but they do know what color nail-polish Paris Hilton and J-Lo used today!
Vanilla Sky
- The Godfather
- Ben Hur
- Gone with the wind
- Some like it hot
- L'Aurore (Murnau)
- Manhattan (Allen)
- Everyone says I love you (Allen)
- The Curse of the Jade Scorpion (Allen)
- Match point (Allen)
The green mile is not my favourite but it's a bit under-rated jusdging by the responses in this thread. I thought it would be at least top ten for a lot of people.
I get it, you like Woody Allen, but Curse of the Jade Scorpion? It looks so out of place on that list.
Ok, seriously, all you people need to watch Office Space.
