Favorite Non-Textured Poly?

What is your favorite non-textured/non-shaped poly?

Do you use a full set up or do you hybrid it?

I've been using a Tour Bite 1.20 (currently 1.15 because of the closed 16x19 pattern on my Pure Strikes) / Gosen 1.25 hybrid for a long time now. However it looks as though I'm going to be switching racquets to something with a more wide open string pattern so I'd like to give a non-shaped poly a try...mainly to see if I still get enough spin and if a non-shaped poly gives me a more consistent ball response off the strings.

Interested in hearing some of your favorites since it's been years upon years since I've tried anything other than a shaped/textured poly.

Thanks!

Tourna Big Hitter Silver 17 (1.21) might be worth a try. Bite and spin is very good, although probably not nearly as good as TB. I use BHS 17/Gamma SG 16 white w/o WG. Pretty good and comfortable @54/57 in a Prince Tour Pro 100 (16x18).

What is the actual diameter of this string? Package pictured says 1.25 but the TW description says 1.20-1.22.

They changed the diameter of the 16 and 17 gauges a few years ago and confused everyone. The most up-to-date diameter of BHS 17 is 1.20-1.22. TW's product description page is the most up to date.

It looks like some of the ones that get pretty good reviews, either from the TW Playtesters or customers, and aren't $17+ a set are:

- Touna Big Hitter Silver (1.20-1.22)
- Tourna Big Hitter Black Zone (1.20)
- Tourna Big Hitter Blue (1.25)
- Topspin Cyber Blue (1.20)
- Luxilon Big Banger Ace (1.10)
- Solinco Outlast (1.20)
- Weiss Cannon Silverstring (1.20)
- Weiss Cannon Scorpion (1.22)

Anyone have experience with any of those strings?

I've got experience with Revolve, Silver String, and Outlast. All three were very nice. I'd give the edge to Silver String. Very comfy and provides some excellent spin.

- Touna Big Hitter Silver (1.20-1.22) - basic silver poly, comfortable enough, decent spin, excellent value
- Tourna Big Hitter Black Zone (1.20) - good cross string, also tried it as a full bed but it felt nebulous
- Tourna Big Hitter Blue (1.25)
- Topspin Cyber Blue (1.20) - muted, but still a nice string, comfortable, not a lot of bite but decent spin anyway
- Luxilon Big Banger Ace (1.10)
- Solinco Outlast (1.20) - very nice when strung 3 lbs. lower than other 17L polys, comfortable and good spin & control
- Weiss Cannon Silverstring (1.20)
- Weiss Cannon Scorpion (1.22)

Kirschbaum plain syngut 1.25 mains/ kirschbaum proline ii 1.15 crosses @ 55/51 lbs in a youtek speed pro 18x20 .

What this does is gives me the playability of syngut and slippery crosses of the round poly. The feeing is from the poly crosses. Thus the feeling of the lower tension @51 in the hybrid is welcomed. And also the durability of the pre-stretched proline ii gives me a longer life on the hybrid set until I have to pick up the spare racquet also same hybrid setup. And being a round poly gives me the consistent ball feel the I'm accustomed to between racquets.

Had I gone the reverse hybrid setup of a kirschbaum proline X 1.20 main / Syngut crosses @ 49/53lbs I would get the playability of the poly mains but the feeling of the higher tension syngut at 53lbs . Then the proline X has a crisp/control playability which is big on serve placement however the type of serves start to diminish in placement after logging in hours and also it's weakness is on playing slices and low volleys.

Head hawk if you're on the expensive side. Kirschbaum pro line x for the less expensive side. Both great strings.
I never liked smooth polys with synthetic gut. Didn't get enough bite compared to shaped poly mains with synthetic gut crosses

Pro Line II, Razor Code, Element, and ALU will always be my go-to strings as far as non-textured / shaped strings go.

I think the smooth rounded polys are good for the syngut in the mains to slide and snap back the slippery poly crosses. I get a lot of bite on the ball and control from the feeling of the poly crosses as it's the crosses where the feeling is. The syngut mains will be how it will play, picking a soft, muted syngut and lower powered than others . Then the crosses should be a softer poly than others.

Hmm I've never tried a synthetic gut/ poly configuration. But then again I'm more of a full poly kinda guy.
