Favorite Round Co-Poly?

What is your favorite round (ie: not shaped) co-poly/poly? Do you use it in a full bed or hybrid it? If you use it in a hybrid, what is your set up?

I ask because I've played with either Solinco Hyper G or Solinco Tour Bite ever since Tour Bite first came out - always using them in a hybrid as the mains with Gosen OG Sheep as the crosses. This past week I demoed several Prince racquets and fell in love with the Prince Phantom Pro 100. I can't say with complete certainty, but from what letters I can make out on the string, I believe it came strung with the Prince Warrior Response 16g co-poly that is now being closed out. I was really able to hit both spin and flat shots really well with this racquet and the string that was in it. I plan on ordering a couple of these racquets soon and am rethinking my standard shaped poly/syn set up. The fact that the Response string is now on closeout for $5 is fantastic, but I'd prefer something that, while similar, is thinner than 1.30mm (preferably 1.20 mm) and will still be around in a year. Therefore, I'd like to hear what your favorite round co-poly/poly is right now.

Thanks.

I was a playtester for Yonex Pro Tour Poly in the 1.15 gauge and of the round strings I've used, which are admittedly not that many, it would not only be my favorite but the muted nature of contact is pretty similar to Hyper-G.

The feel of Tour Bite is quite different, probably closest to something like Evolution.

ALU Power, 1.25. The only downside is that it only plays great for 3 hours or so. If I had a genie who could blink me new stings? Mmmm

I think Head lynx (yellow) is quite a good round string if you are no stranger to restringing often.
It offers nice pocketing, good control, neutral feel and above average spin potential for round poly. It is also quite a pleasant poly for your hand. Big downside is tension maintenance.

Some people here swear by YPTP 1.20 mm. It should have more crisper feel with good spin potential and good durability. Haven´t tried it yet.

RS lyon should also be here.

Is RPM Blast shaped or not? Doesn’t look like it but TW says it has 8 sides. If blast is shaped, probably Big Banger Original. But I’m testing out some polys soon.

rpm blast is shape albeit rounded off octagonal shape...there should be a picture of the shape on the package. Wilson revolve is quite nice for round poly but needs to be prestretched or else craps out after 4-5 hrs heavy hitting. I use VCT 16g/revolve 17g as one of my go to pseudo gut/poly setup. VCT strung @low tension w prestretch feels softer/more power/spin/durability than gut at a quarter of the price. I play 4.5 level and nonpoly crosses would crap out after 1-2 hours and start fraying so I just dont do that anymore.

Isn’t hyper G shaped Poly? PL 2 is a nice round copoly. Yonex Poly Tour Pro isn’t so bad either.

Currently using Kirschbaum Max Power and Yonex Poly Strike Tour, and I am loving both.

Also big fan of PLII as well as RS Lyon.
Lyon was my go-to until they took it off TW. Switched to Max Power and just as pleased if not more. Tension maintenance is awesome.

Isn’t hyper G shaped Poly?

Yes, it sure is! I'm looking to try a round poly that plays similar to the Solinco Hyper G I typically use (in a hybrid) or the Prince Warrior Response string that was in the demo (in 1.25mm or 1.20mm).

Thanks for all the input! Seems like there is a pretty good consensus on some of the better round polys out there...many of them around the same price point ($12) as my Hyper G/Tour Bite.

The Kirschbaum Max Power is really the one that seems to be standing out to me after hearing your comments and reading the reviews - from what I can tell, except for a slight drop in power, it seems to be the one that is most similar to the Hyper G I'm used to. My only concern would be the 241 stiffness rating from TW...at least 20 points higher than any of the others strings I'm looking at!

A couple cheaper alternatives that weren't mentioned but (at least from reviews, TW and otherwise) seem similar to the Hyper G except in the round shape are: Topspin CyberFlash, Tourna Black Zone, Kirschbaum ProLine X, and Tourna Big Hitter.

Any thoughts on these cheaper alternatives?

Again, appreciate you taking the time to give me your thoughts!

Tourna big hitter silver is a great string. Pro line x is very stiff.

On match day when I don't care for tension maintenance two of my favorite my favorite setups are ALU Power Ice on the mains with either Polytour Fire or Diadem Flash on the crosses. All three of these strings are round.

Some other round favorites of mine include Max Power, Big Banger Ace, 4G Soft, Head Hawk, and the very underexposed Laserfibre Native Tour.

Glad to see some love for a couple of the cheaper alternatives!

Also nice seeing there's still excitement for Kirschbaum strings...I remember using the Super Smash Honey way back in the day - probably one of my first introductions to poly strings!

I appreciate all the input so far!

Again, appreciate all the feedback...plan on ordering a couple new racquets on Wednesday so narrowing down my string choices.

Right now, after all your suggestions and reading of reviews, the front runners (either in a full bed or as mains with Gosen OG Sheep Micro) seem to be: Kirschbaum Pro Line X, Kirschbaum Max Power, Tourna Black Zone, and Tourna Big Hitter Silver. There were several others you recommended that sound fantastic but I was hoping to stay under the $12 price point (yea, I know Max Power is over $12 but so many people have recommended it that it was hard to leave it off the list).

Again, thank you for the help and advice...greatly appreciate it!

+1 vote for Tourna Black Zone. I use it as a cross with Natural Gut mains. I don’t like FB poly but I’ve played BZ that way too and it’s good if FB is your thing. I’ve also played it as a main with Gosen AK Control as a cross. Solid setup that way too, I just prefer NG.

Going to start out trying Kirschbaum ProLine X 1.25, Solinco Confidential 1.25, and Tourna Black Zone 1.25 mains first. Pairing each with Gosen OG Sheep Micro 1.22 crosses in the Prince Phantom Pro 100.

Any recommendation for a starting tension? 48/51 has been my tension with the poly/syn set up in my Textreme Tour 100T racquets.

Again, thanks for all the input!

You'd be missing out, imo, if you didn't try Tier One Ghost Wire as a cross with whatever mains you prefer. The string was recommended above, and I strongly second the suggestion. It's the best poly cross I've personally played, and I usually hit it in a hybrid with Klip Gut, Multifeel, or OGSM mains. You gotta try it!

Wilson Revolve was pretty nice for a round co-poly string. However, I think RS Lyon and Prince Tour XR are also some pretty good round polyester strings.

Is it available at TW?

Thanks!

TripleB

TW does not sell Tier One string, but don't let that deter you. Do a quick Google search of their string, and you should be on their site in no time. Usually free shipping on as few as three packs and other offers frequently (just got 30% off an over $50 order). This isn't the place to plug them;) but you should check them out. Ghost Wire holds tension like a firmer string but plays soft and controlled. It's a paradox as far as strings go.

Thanks for the tip on the Revolve...I have a couple sets in my "tennis closet" so I'll give that a shot at some point!

I appreciate everyone's help and honest advice on this post...it's really help me narrow my strings down to some tremendous choices...for now and in the future!

Have a fantastic week!

I echo YPTP 1.20mm, I've been restringing this for the last few months and yeah everyone's pretty spot on with it, it's really the good at everything but not great at everything string (This is not a bad comment, it's awesome but just depends on what you want hey). Super predictable string that is a bit muted but soft, while offering decent spin and power.

I switched from Hyper-g 1.20 so I could give some insight, I do miss the bite that I got on my hyper-g. The balls don't jump off the court as much but PTP feels slightly more 'smooth' and linear in its response. PTP has a slightly lower launch angle too and I can't tell the difference between which one is more lively. So hard to say which one I like more, I could easily play with both. PTP isn't a 'wow' string, it's that responsible and dependable response that you learn to really appreciate. Give it a shot !

of the blue colors, I would say the air yonex, kirschbaum evo and dyreex whisper, the three in the same category. I also love the yonex tough, in my opinion underestimated
for fun, blue color, dyreex whisper, I find it a little better everywhere than kirschbaum evolution, but the latter is really a superb string.

in fine gauge, I really like the polyfibre hightec poly, in 1.10mm it is one of the few round poly of this diameter.

Finally, isospeed cream, weiss scorpion and yonex poly tower pro are must-have classqiues. finally, for snapback enthusiasts, yonex poly tour fire and tecnifibre red code wax are superb.

note that among all these poly, none exceeds $8-10, may only be the yonex fire, but the others arealmost very good everywhere. without really big weaknesses, except maybe the stability voltage for the polyfiber, but in 1.10mm it's almost normal!

I like all the prince polys which are round like Tour XP, XC and XR. My favorite is the Tour XC in the crosses. Very slick in a gut/poly hybrid and lasts and lasts forever.

I love Ghost Wire but I like it in the mains. I do GW/Prince syn gut hybrid but I need to try GW in the crosses.

Good to know that it works well in the mains and possibly full bed. I prefer soft mains so have only tried Ghost Wire as crosses, but they are fantastic. If you have something that works, don't mess with it;)

Soft round elastomer (rubber) infused copolys: Yonex Poly Tour Air 1.25mm and Isospeed Cream in 1.28mm. These are the only two copolys infused with Elastomer (Rubber) to my knowledge. These aren't true polys IMO. They are half rubber/ half poly, and feel like no other polys. You can feel the rubbery composition when you string these strings. To compare them to other copolys is simply not an accurate comparison.

Stiff round polys: Head Hawk Touch 1.25mm, Wilson Revolve 1.25mm (Slick), Yonex Poly Pro Tour 1.25mm, & Lux 4G Soft. I have a reel of GhostWire 1.22mm on the way so they may become a player

I appreciate everyone's input and advice!

I started out with several different mains in a hybrid with Gosen OG Sheep Micro 1.22mm crosses (in Prince Phantom Pro 100): Kirschbaum ProLine X 1.25, Tourna Black Zone 1.25, Kirschbaum Pro Line Evolution 1.25. Of the three the Evolution turned out to be the stand out of the group.

I then compared that hybrid to Solinco Hyper G 1.25, Solinco Tour Bite 1.25, and Solinco Confidential 1.25 all in the same hybrid set up and the same tensions. Still, the Evolution hybrid stood out as the best of the bunch. The Tour Bite hybrid was close (mainly because I was more confident in the spin I got on my serve), but overall playability went to the Evolution.

The newest set up I've put in my Phantom Pro 100 is a full bed of Evolution and it plays pretty similar to my Evolution hybrid set up except the feel isn't quite as soft, the power is less, and it offers more spin than the hybrid set up...which gives me a ton of confidence on all my shots. I'm pretty sure this full poly won't give me any arm problems either considering the Phantom has a 54 flex.

While I'm loving both of these set ups, I would like to try a couple other smooth polys in a full poly set up.

Based on your recommendations and some reading I've done, I'm thinking of trying:
Kirschbaum Max Power 1.25
WeissCannon Scorpion 1.22
Prince Diablo Pro 1.20
Prince Diablo Duo 1.25
Wilson Revolve 1.25
MSV Co-Focus 1.18

Any comparison feedback on any of those strings would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Kirschbaum Evolution is very good poly string. I have played it in a full bed and also as cross with gut in the mains. Super blend of control, spin, power, playbility duration. My girlfriend play it in a full bed and she always say, that she can trust the string to do that what she wants. And is also under 90 EUR in Europe for reel.

You can also try tier one ghost wire very soft and slick string. Softer the evolution and has more power then it.

My one wish would be that it came in 1.20mm :)

After more reading (and watching TW videos), I have decided to compare my Evolution to: Solinco Outlast 1.20 (gotta give it a shot since I've use Tour Bite for so many years), Tecnifibre Ice Code 1.20, and Kirschbaum Max Power 1.20. I also have Wilson Revolve 17 and MSV CoFocus 1.18 already on hand in case I want to give either of those a shot as well.

Thanks for all the advice!

Are there any round polys that don’t go dead within 10 hours?

I am asking because all the round polys I‘ve used in gut main/poly cross hybrids have the round poly go dead within 5-8 hours even before I break the strings. When I use shaped polys in hybrids, I break the strings within 12-15 hours, but the shaped poly in most cases doesn’t go dead before that.

Head Lynx 1.20 works best for me. Blue or green (no difference) I play with the Yonex Ezone 100. This head is brilliant. I've play with 20 different polys and none plays that well. Unfortunately, it only takes 4 hours for me. It doesn't matter to me because I buy in spool and I have a stretching machine
