Favorite Round Co-Poly?

As it turns out I ended up loving both Kirschbaum Evolution 1.25 and Tecnifibre Ice Code White 1.20. I have each of these as a full bed in my Prince Phantom Pro 100 at 52/50. I'm loving so much about each string and am playing some of my best doubles of the past 20 years (or maybe ever...considering I couldn't stand doubles until about 10 years ago)!

I pick up my third PPP100 today and it has a full bed of Kirchbaum Max Power 1.20 in at at 52/50.

My new string of choice will definitely be one of these three!

Thanks for everyone's help and input!

Is anyone getting the round poly to stay good for longer than 10-15 hours before it goes dead? If so, please mention the poly and how long it says playable. I also would like to find a round poly that plays like ALU Power, but lasts closer to 12-15 hours.

Everyone is trying. Alu for me lasts 30 mins on a clay court.
Recently tried max power and it lasted 4/5 hours with good performance. The drop off wasn't as big as alu though, still remains playable. Basically I think it has the same performance, maybe the feel isn't as good but it still feels really crisp and responsive. It's stiffer though, string a few pounds or a kilo lower

Heed this warning! I strung it at 52/50 like I do my Evolution and my Ice Code...my elbow was killing me a set and a half in. And this was in a 54 flex PPP100.

Haha thanks! Never had any arm problems,. probably from all those years single haha I did actually feel a little fatigue in my wrist, but I put it down to overplaying. We'll see

I also have Wilson Revolve 17 and MSV CoFocus 1.18 already on hand in case I want to give either of those a shot as well.

The Kirschbaum Max Power 1.20 was horrible for my elbow, at least at 52/50 in my 54 flex racquet. Only lasted a set and a half before I had to go back to my full Evolution set up.

So I'm now going to give the MSV CoFocus 1.18 a shot and if it doesn't work out I'm going with either a full Evolution set up or a Evolution/Ice Code hybrid (that I have yet to try).

Since I didn't heed the "lower the tension" warnings on the Max Power, I thought I better ask if there are any tension warnings you need to give me on the MSV CoFocus 1.18 red? I'll make sure I heed these warnings!

The Evolution I'm liking is strung at 52/50 on a Prince Phantom Pro 100 16x18 54 flex racquet.

Thanks!

Are there any round polys that don’t go dead within 10 hours?

I am asking because all the round polys I‘ve used in gut main/poly cross hybrids have the round poly go dead within 5-8 hours even before I break the strings. When I use shaped polys in hybrids, I break the strings within 12-15 hours, but the shaped poly in most cases doesn’t go dead before that.
My understanding is that a shaped poly does not hold tension longer than a shaped poly. For example tension maintenance is a tad better for Volkl cyclone tour than Volkl cyclone in my experience. Other opinions?

I’m talking about poly going ‘dead’ - loses its resilience and starts feeling harsh. I’m not talking about tension maintenance and control getting lower.

Yeah all strings will lose tension. It's whether it keeps its playability. Could be something to do with the elasticity of a string? NAT gut holds well? Because of elasticity? I dno

I see what you mean. I just feel like the drop in tension is the first step then it will eventually feel dead. In my example again, I don’t really like how Volkl cyclone Tour feels after 10-15 hours: not only the string is pretty lose (don’t know to what extent but tension is much lower than it was) but it also feels somewhat dead and much less comfortable. Just my experience. I thought that a string that would hold tension better would also feel dead later, isn’t it the case?

I have a sensitive elbow and so I feel poly strings going ‘dead’ well before the tension has dropped enough to affect control especially because I use poly only as a cross in a hybrid with gut mains. The comfort level drops faster for me with very stiff strings - so, to me poly going ‘dead’ seems to correlate more with the stiffness spec rather than the tension maintenance spec. In general, stiffer strings don’t hold tension well also, but this varies between manufacturers and some softer strings from one brand might not be as good in tension maintenance as stiffer strings from another brand.

When I feel that the poly goes ‘dead’, I also see that the strings stay out of place more easily and even the noise made on contact starts sounding different than with a fresh set of strings. If anything, the power starts going down and the directional control gets more unpredictable even though the tension is likely much lower than at the start.

My experience is the same, well said.
Thanks for your input.

Ghost Wire holds tension like a firmer string but plays soft and controlled. It's a paradox as far as strings go.

Just ordered a set of the Ghost Wire to try as a cross with my Evolution.

Is there any Tier One string you'd recommend to try with the other half set of Ghost Wire?

Thanks for the recommendation!

Personally, I would definitely try Black Knight in the mains. Some like Firewire for massive spin, but I've never tried that one. Hope it works out for you!

Seconded. I may be somewhat of a black sheep here but to me Firewire really lacked the controlled response and consistency I look for so I couldn't quite swing out as much->less spin. BK plays great on the other hand so I'd def recommend it as a main.

TripleB - Six or seven people have mentioned Yonex ptp and yet you haven’t gave them as much as a sniff. I have had three or four reels of it. Great string!

I've tried the PTP before, although not in my PPP100 racquets, and didn't like it as well as the the others strings I was considering at the time.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Alu, kirschbaum max power, bbo, lux adrenaline, I'd add isospeed grey fire too.

I actually don't particularly like shaped polys much except tour bite. Just don't feel in control with them, think people who get a lot of spin with shaped polys, probably hit a floaty ball. Imo obviously.

Did you already try the combo evolution/ghost wire?
Pls let me know how did it played, and also compare to full bed of evolution.
And which gauge of ghost

I have not tried it out yet...taking a break from tennis right now in preparation for a pickleball tourney. Once I try the combination out (although I'll probably try Black Knight/Ghost Wire first) I'll try to remember to put up my findings!

I'm going to take a guess that CoFocus didn't work out? I wasn't really a fan of that string.

Actually it isn't too bad and is still in one of my racquets. It either dropped tension quite a bit at first or it came out strung lower than I was expecting, but the strings felt slightly loose. Still played well with it and will definitely try it a couple more times before I have that racquet restrung.

To be honest, I've not played tennis in the last couple weeks. Had a pickleball tourney last weekend so I stopped playing tennis in preparation for it...haven't started back playing tennis yet (and may not for a while).

I was a playtester for Yonex Pro Tour Poly in the 1.15 gauge and of the round strings I've used, which are admittedly not that many, it would not only be my favorite but the muted nature of contact is pretty similar to Hyper-G.

The feel of Tour Bite is quite different, probably closest to something like Evolution.
Poly tour also has a slight texture to it that allows it to grab the ball. Not quite like a rough string but I find it plays more spin friendly than most just round strings.

im really diggin this lynx touch, but im not sure it can quite be classified as a traditional round poly. also have really liked ghostwire and cream
