Fed at AO: Easiest Path to a Grand Slam Semi Ever?

I know it's not Federer's fault, but his draw in the AO has been profoundly easy. Here are the rankings of his opponents so far:
1st. Johnson, 75
2nd. Krajanovic, 41
3rd. Millman, 47
4th. Fucsovics, 67
Qtr: Sandgren, 100
Assuming Fed beats Sandgren, he would have made it to a GS semifinal without facing an opponent in the top 40. Has that ever happened before? Perhaps on the women's side where there seems to be more upsets. Of course, he will likely face Djokovic next and then a tough opponent in the final, but so far it's been borderline Challenger-level competition for him.

Hmm, just scanned the topic titles for the last few days and don't see anything clearly on that subject. I guess those discussions are embedded deep within a larger topic. I'm not going to read through every post and reply before posting a comment. I have no beef at all. I like Fed. Just stating what seems like an interesting stat. BTW I just checked and all of those guys have played Challengers over the last year. Also, I honestly want to know if this has ever happened before, someone making a GS semi without facing a top 40 opponent.

Chances are you're trolling, but I'll bite. Try Nadal 2017 US Open.

I don't read these forums often and post even less, but there seems to be a bit of cynicism of motives and sensitivity by some. I'll tread lightly in the future! ;)
