But...He wasn't 40 years old in 2013...

We can keep hope...But he isn't winning any majors i think

As I already said yesterday in another thread, I think his issues against Hurkacz looked more form-related than age-related. He made tons of errors where the reason wasn’t bad footwork, being a half a step too slow or such things. He just regularly missed his shots from a good position.

He never was really back into it this year, form-wise. Movement-wise he got better since the restart I would say. So yes, maybe there is some hope left.

He was overplaying his FH and it was not the usual Fed thing. As throughout the match he seemed in a rush. He missed two easy drive volleys in the breaker excluding that unlucky slip and played sloppy game to gift the break back.

The base of his game is his serve and FH and if that doesn't return to its near best them he can't beat the in form top guys

Also the lack of free points off the first serve, not sure if he's taking precautionary measures due to the surgeries but the serve isn't as potent as even 2019 so far in his comeback.

If this match happened anytime in the last decade, Federer would win easily, usually without dropping a set. If it happened earlier in this tournament, Federer would have a better chance, because his body still had a bigger reserve of energy. At 40, his body doesn't have a lot of energy, and cannot replenish it in time for the next match.
