I didn't record the match and thought there was a critical moment in the match in the third set at 5-2 Nalbandian leading and serving where Federer got pissed about an overrule or something and DID SOMETHING, like whacked a ball at Nalbandian or something, something seemingly uncharacteristic. He thereafter had a little break-down in his mental game which I think was a large part of the reason he lost.
I thought this was a key point in the match because Federer got really, really charged up and picked up his level of play immediately *and irrationally* since he was down 5-2 in that set and down in the game and had no good chance of taking the set *and he had been WISELY in energy conservation mode. Anyway, it went onto like a giant series of deuces with Nalbandian hanging in there even though Federer was clearly trying to send a message about how he was the better player.
FEDERER FAILED TO SEND THE MESSAGE, Nalbandian held in there and won the set 6-2 without giving up that game.
I think this really messed up the Federer plan because prior to this he had been planning to give up the 3rd set and take the fourth, but with all the energy he expended in that game, at the beginning of the fourth I think he was surprised to find he just didn't have it anymore.
So anyway, I think this was a clear psychological as well as physical moment in the match, BUT I MISSED WHAT HAPPENED OR WHAT MADE FEDERER UPSET AND HOW HE LASHED OUT.
