And let's not forget he beat Medvedev in the previous round. No way he needs to retire. He was way, way below his potential optimal level and Hurkacz is not a nobody, a Masters 1000 winner inside top 20, who has a dangerous game.
Who?And let's not forget he beat Medvedev in the previous round.
Finally, a Senior Tour worth watchingSince Venus Williams is a little older, should she retire too? I don't see a thread calling for that and Federer is way more relevant at this stage. Why the double standard ? Fed can do what he wants. What's wrong with that ? I for one would love to see 1 more year with a somewhat limited schedule. We don't realize how good we have it with the big 3. When those guys are gone, it will take awhile if ever for the game to stay interesting from what I have seen from the younger players. This has been a golden era with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. 59 majors combined from 3 players in the same era is simply mind blowing.
Is this the first time that Federer has been bagelled since the 2008 French Open final, and only the second time in the 21st century?
No wonder Vince wasn't afraid-a-Fed
Well Meddy nearly beat him and he’s not comfortable on grass much at all. Yeah we will see how he fares against berraI don’t think hurkacz did anything special. He was much more steady. We shall see when he plays someone that doesn’t blow up .

He has been bageled on grass, however. Byron Black bageled him at Queen's in 1999.It's certainly the first time he has ever been bagelled at Wimbledon.
Some will say he's harming his own image...Why do people want him to retire? Last time I checked, tennis is an individual sport, he's not harming any team's performance. If anyone in the history of tennis has earned the right to play on even if he loses first round, it's Roger Federer. End of story.
Fed needs to retire.

And a Miami champion who beat Tsitsipas on his way to the title.Unknown? He was seeded.
It’s got nothing to do with that. You think he doesn’t know that his last shot at a major came and went on the grass in 2019? He knows better than anyone what he is capable of. His press conference he indicated that he will discuss with his team on things going forward. He was asked if this was his last Wimbledon and he said “I don’t know”He's too vain and seemingly obsessed with not ending his career passed in majors count by Djokovic and Nadal to retire.

True but I don’t think he honestly believes that he is a contender for titles at slams anymore. He can go into the second week but realistically winning 7 5 set matches in two weeks following 3 knee surgeries is very unlikely when he turns 40 in just about a month. If it was his "Last Wimbledon", it still does not mean that's the last major he will try to enter.
That was quick.
ms winner against a bunch of nobodies when no one was touring us due to covid!Bagelled by a Wimbledon semi finalist and recent Masters series winner

So he’ll keep playing on like Andy m and just get mediocre results. He doesn't need to. It all depends on a perspective. He has a big following and is good to watch. But if he cannot settle for less than winning big titles, than yes, probably retirement is the way to go. But somehow, I feel that this ship has sailed, retirement on a high is not possible now, and retiring after a bagel at Wimbledon will look like running away, so he may continue for some time at least. Will be interesting to see how he performs in Basel this year.
Not necessarily, his form will improve if he stays fit and plays matches, although probably not improve enough to win a Slam, but he has 20 of those already, and getting to QF is not a bad result at all. Being in top 8 out of 128 entrants is not really "mediocre", given that he is nearly 40 and barely played since early 2020. Nobody is meant to stay in top winning form forever anyway. Whether he can settle for it is another matter, but it's his business. So he’ll keep playing on like Andy m and just get mediocre results.

That doesn’t really count.. he wasn’t a semi finalist when Fed was playing him. Whenever bringing up a players list of achievement you usually don’t count the current tournament anyway. Can’t we for once say that Fed played badly? It’s expected that he plays badly now and then, with his age. But still you’ve got to be able to admit it. He’s not that unlucky that his opponent turns into GOAT level everytime they face him.Bagelled by a Wimbledon semi finalist and recent Masters series winner

I keep forgetting. Well, then whichever event comes last for him this year. I doubt he can hit the form enough to win the GS, but winning a tournament here and there should still be possible for himBasel has already been canceled
