Fed, Rafa, Nole - periods of dominance over eachother

Ok, this might be somewhat useless, but I'm very bored ;)

Basically I was thinking about Novak beating Nadal 5 times in a row and on 3 surfaces and thinking about how this is even more dominant than Nadal was over Federer. So I thought I'd compare each players biggest winning streaks against each other in several ways. Warning! This will get complicated, and I'm bound to have got a couple of things wrong, so feel free to correct.

Federer defeating Djokovic

Most matches won against Novak in a row -
4 (first 4 matches they played Monte Carlo 2006, Davis Cup 2006, Australian Open 2007, Dubai 2007. After which Federer best winning streak was 3 matches last year)

Most sets in a row
7 sets from the above 4 match streak starting in the fisrt set of Davis Cup and ending in the second set of Dubai which Novak won on a tiebreak.

Most finals in a row
2 - US Open 2007, Cinnci 2009.

Most surfaces in a row -
2 -Clay and Hardcourt

Djokovic beating Federer

Most matches in a row
3 - Australian Open 2011, Dubai 2011, Indian Wells 2011

Most sets in a row

Most Finals in a row

Nadal beating Djokovic

Most sets in a row
6 sets - Hamburg 2008 final set, RG 2008, Queens 2008 (also 5 set streak 3 times - Rome 2007, Roland Garros 2007. Final set of Olympics 2008, Davis Cup 2009 and first set Monte Carlo 2009. US Open 2010 final 2 sets, WTF 2010, first set Indian Wells 2011)

Most Finals in a row

Put simply you can see Federer has the edge against Novak but loses to Rafa, Novak however equals or beats Nadal in each stat.

Looking closer, now we see Novak's most matches in a row over Rafa is equal to Rafa's matches in a row over him and Rafa's matches in a row over Federer (5), and also better than Federer's over Novak (4). Although Novak has only beaten Federer 3 times in a row and Federer has beaten him 4 times. So Djokovic has yet to dominate Federer as much as Federer has done to him, but his dominance over Nadal is as good as any between the 3 players.

Novak's sets in a row ( 8 )is better than Nadal's sets in a row against him and Federer (6) and better than Federer's record over Novak (7). Again though Federer's sets in a row Against Djokovic is more than Djokovic against Federer (6). But he has the best winning streak in sets of any combination of the 3.

His finals in a row over Nadal is as good as Nadal's record over him and over Federer (5), and better than Federer's record over Novak (2). However Federer has beaten Novak in more finals in a row compared to him beating Federer in finals (1).

He has also beaten Nadal on all 3 surfaces without losing a match to him inbetween. Nadal has never done this to Novak, Federer has never done it to Novak or Nadal.

It becomes apparent that Federer whilst being dominated by Nadal, does better against Djokovic than Rafa does. Even on H2H it is now 14-9 to Federer against Novak (5 match difference) but 16-12 for Nadal over Novak (4 match difference)

In every aspect, this current streak against Nadal is as good or better than Nadal's best steak against Novak or Federer, but Novak is still to dominate Federer more than Federer has dominated him.

Rock, Paper, scissors indeed.

This is joke buddy.

Just a few weeks ago who ended his streak and denied him history?
He will never dominate Rodge. Never has.

You fail.

Nadal has beaten Djokovic 5 times in a row himself, and has twice beaten Federer 5 times in a row.

Comprehension fail. I SAID that he has not dominated Federer like Federer has dominated him.You bolded that part but still didn't get it? . :?

As I said, Federer has been Novak's main problem.

Also as I pointed out Nadal has 5 match winning streaks over both Novak and Roger.

You must be very slow, or sorry for what you said.

You said Novak is still to dominate Federer more than Federer has dominated him.

Maybe you need help to understand what you yourself said?

Never 5 finals in a row, never. Your master is being dominated like never before in history actually. Find any 5 time in a row finals failure like that.

Muhahahaaaahhaa

You guys are some sorry arse like now.

Nadal has beaten Djokovic 5 times in a row himself, and has twice beaten Federer 5 times in a row.

One of the five match that Nadal won wasn't an ATP event, and thus no players earned any points.

As in he hasn't done it yet? Understand English? I'm a big Federer fan and I've basically said Federer has the upperhand against Djokovic. All your posts so far in this thread are epic fails.

Your English must really suck. Maybe you copy and paste someone else's work?

You maybe a big fan but you sound pretty stupid. Novak is still to dominate Federer more than Federer has dominated him?

bunch of garbage, your whole post.

Your English must really suck. Maybe you copy and paste someone else's work?

You maybe a big fan but you sound pretty stupid. Novak is still to dominate Federer more than Federer has dominated him?

bunch of garbage, your whole post.

My English is fine, you obviously have trouble understanding simple phrases. No I didn't cut and paste, but the phrase "still to" meaning "yet to do" is a common one. Shame on you for not knowing it! Just own up to it instead of calling someone stupid for knowing something you didn't! Haha. And telling me about my English and using the word "suck"? How old are you, 13?

Most of my post contained facts and put Djokovic as Nadal's nightmare and stated Federer was Djokovic's nightmare. Which you seem to agree with.

And every post you've made here makes you sound stupid. Maybe even ********, but that would be an insult to people who really have genuine mental disabilities.

The craziest thing for me is that Djokovic has faced Federer and Nadal 51 times in just over 5 years. Whooda thunkit?

Never 5 finals in a row, never. Your master is being dominated like never before in history actually. Find any 5 time in a row finals failure like that.

Muhahahaaaahhaa

You guys are some sorry arse like now.

Again, you fail

Nadal did beat Djokovic in 5 finals in a row:

1. 2007 Indian Wells
2. 2008 Queen's Club
3. 2009 Monte Carlo
4. 2009 Rome
5. 2010 US Open

Yeah. He tells me my whole post sucked, when all the information he's been proved wrong on (like the finals you've just posted) was in my post. Obviously didn't read it.

You should have said " Novak is YET to dominate..."

"Yet" is the correct word to use to deliver your message. "still" always implies continuity, which is not what you meant.

Dont be offended when someone calls you on your mistake. And I never insult anyone unless insulted first. You started by comprehension fail and you dont understand simple phrases and things like that.

Anyways, I did not mean to be rude, specially to a fellow Rodge fan. So I am sorry if I offended you because that was not intended.

You can say "still to dominate" or "yet to dominate". It doesn't really matter.

Yeah, and then was too proud to admit he'd made a mistake, so questioned my English which made him look all the more foolish since I was giving Roger credit anyway.

I would normally use "yet" but "still" is also ok in my opinion. So I don't see it as a mistake. But I didn't mean to cause offence either, so I apologise about that.

Yes it does if you want to write perfect English. I know perfect English is too much for you so as far as you are concerned no it doesn't matter.

Ok well I didn't put it as I normally would, but I still think it made sense, but at a glance could have come off in the wrong way. But anyway, the meaning is known now, so let's all move on. No hard feelings.

All cool buddy.

By the way, what do you think about Djoker_Nadal future H2H? Do you believe he can turn it around in next few years? The have already met 5 times this year and we are only about half through or so...

You don't need to apologize, OJ fails often himself. And is not an English major by any means.:)

We need more people that make statistical analysis, as it can be very interesting. Just like when Federer lost his match, and he looked to be the better player.

Thanks. Yeah I think now he can turn it around. He's still 4 behind, so he may not end up with a huge lead (also if they remain 1 and 2 for a while they can of course only meet in finals, except in Davis Cup and WTF semis) but I think he can close the gap and take a lead, but it might take a year or more to do it. It would be incredible if they can both keep making finals this year, even 3 more meetings would be a lot. Next year Novak may get the lead. If he did it this year that would mean he'd have beaten him at least 10times to zero this year.

I just read in the other thread that Nadal has said " Novak level is not forever"

As if his own level is forever. He hold 3 majors last year and still holding two supposedly with his level at medium??

If anything, it's Nadal's level that's more likely to drop, specially with more injuries to come. And then I have no doubt his H2H against Novak is going to suck.

Hi, not sure where to post this and I don't want to start a new thread.

I know Federer has a pretty shocking H2H record against Nadal but I'm curious as to what the H2H looks like when you take out the clay matches.

Does anyone know?

Fed leads 6-5.

They are 2-2 in slams w/ Fed winning the first 2 and Nadal the next 2.

Grass: 2-1 Fed
Outdoor hard: 4-1 Nadal
Indoor hard: 3-0 Fed

I have mixed feelings about the Nadal vs Novak H2H. Obviously I want Novak to keep owning Nadal and make the *********s miserable but then it would mean Nadal have to get to the finals or at least WTF semi for them to play. Of course I don't want Nadal to win any matches which would be required for that to happen. I guess I will have to wait for Nadal to drop in rankings so that he can be a routine early rounds opponent for Novak. It would be great if Nadal would take some time off so that his rankings drop really fast.

I need lessons in subtlety from you. :D

(I wish i could put your post as my desktop or screensaver, so i can have a laugh every now and then)

What I found most interesting:

-Djoker has won 8 consecutive sets against Nadal
-Djoker has beaten Nadal consecutively across all surfaces (hard, clay & grass)
-Federer's greatest win streak against Nadal is only 2 matches in a row
-Nadal has beaten Federer in 5 straight finals (which includes 3 slams across 3 surfaces)

I think Djoker's domination of Nadal is approaching the level that we have seen with Nadal against Federer. I'd say that once Djoker starts to beat Nadal more often in slams that we can safely say that the Djoker-Nadal domination is greater than the Nadal-Fed domination.

I guess for now I will have to take comfort in knowing that Nadal's (and *********'s) ego and confidence are being systemically wiped out.

The 8 sets by Djokovic is quite surprising. The fact Federer has never beaten Nadal more than twice in a row is also alarming, however they have never played more than two matches in a row on Hardcourt (their first two matches and the WTF 2010 and Miami 2011), never two in a row on grass (ok that's not surprising) and as a combination of Hard and Grass have only played (you guessed it) 2 in a row. They played Grass/hard 3 times, two of those times Federer won both and the other Nadal won both. Federer could never get more than 2 matches in a row against him without having to switch to clay. With Nadal's improved consistanncy on hardcourts, it would be interesting to see what would have happened if a peak Federer was playing him now, as they would possibly meet several times in a row on hardcourts. 3 times they've played 3 matches in a row on clay, and earlier this year they played twice in a row on clay. It seems amazing in light of the fact that so much of the season is on hardcourts that they never met more than twice in a row on hardcourt.

You don't get any lower than that. In order for Novak to keep owning Nadal, Nadal will have to keep beating Federer.

Can't have it both ways.

This whole scenario is shocking. Still in awe that a solid #1 received such a beatdown in his prime.
And it could have been worse if Fed hadn't interfered.

First of all, this was probably the last year of Nadal's prime(think Fed 2007).

Second, the owning was done by a guy having a season comparable to McEnroe's legendary 1984 season(3 defeats) or Fed's 2006(5 defeats), probably the best seasons in tennis.

I mean Djokovic is 48-1 now and if those special occurences hadn't happened(fed being in jesusmode, novak losing rhythm with 4 days rest, crowd against him), it's very possible that the guy would be 50-0 this year, beating both McEnroe's longest winning streak and prime Fed's as well, not to mention winning 3 GS and 4 MS, having a real shot at a Calendar slam.

So not only does Rafa not have a answer for Djoko, but apparently the tour doesn't either.

They are just pissed Federer never had the balls to do what Novak is doing LOL

The answer doesn't require nearly this much analysis.

Fed-285 weeks at world #1
Nadal-102 weeks at world #1
Nole- 1 week at world #1 and counting

Zing!

This thread illustrates the confusion and nonsense you get when using head-to-head to decide the best player.

This is unknown but don't know how Nadal can play much better than he has since early 2010.

He was close to owning the last 5/6 slams.

Right now Djokovic and Nadal are a very strong top 2.
