Fed should lose to Nadal badly before FO final

Legend
For the past 2 years, Fed raises hope about beating Nadal in French Open by beating/alomst beat him in the match before FO. Eg.

2007 - Hamburg final.
2006 - Rome final. (fed had 2 match points in a 5 set contest).

When Fed thinks he is the favorite, he doesn't play so well in FO final. Nadal just rides over him.

Why I say Fed should lose to Nadal badly is that after Fed lost badly in Monte Carlo final in 06 and 07, he plays desperate tennis against Nadal in their next match and does much better.

Not sure whether this would work but worth a shot. The worst thing is that it cannot be planned, it just has to happen. But this would give sign of things to come.

correlation does not imply causation. Just because this was the unique situation for two years does not mean it caused Fed to lose at the FO. This is just junk science.

The last 2 times Fed beat/almost beat Nadal were on cool days. The last 2 times Nadal dominated Fed were on hot days. So in that theory Fed must hope for a cool day.

Bad philosophy. Bad theory and hypothetically isn't even robust at ALL. Let's just say Nadal cannot be predicted on the FO surface.

wouldn't it be better if Fed won against Nadal a couple of times so he gains more confidence? ( strong wins too)

Nadal is the better clay courter. thats not to say Fed cant pull it off at the open but i dont think he will ever beat Nadal there personally. Nadal definately is not the same player in the second half of the season, pity for Fed its not played in september instead.

Nadals best surface is clay no doubt but im convinced he fades physically in the second half of the year. Federer coupled with his style seems to have the knack of pacing the year out.

I don't think it will work.

Whether Federer thinks he's favourite or not is irrelevant. Nadal has probably been favourite to win the FO for the last 2 years (regardless of the seedings). I also believe this year is no different, Nadal will be favourite, like Federer will be favourite for Wimbledon.
