Fed: "slower courts we see all around the world these days"

Stefan reached the FO final by serving and volleying. He won 2 AOs by serving & volleying. So you can get to the net on the slowest courts. It's all about execution ;)

Stefan has said that, had he played today, he wont go to the net as much as he did before. Instead of Serving and volleying 100%, he would probably do 60-70%, because of the returning abilities of the current elite players.

Then why did he go out and get Edberg" of all people" to coach him? Edberg doesn't know anything about baseline play since he lived at the net his whole career

Fed can pick up quite a few pointers on when it's best to go in, circumstances when to do so and how to set up those chances.

It also freshens up the game for Fed some, gives some excitement to try out different strategies.

Edberg most definitely has a different outlook from his different game, Fed can take what is useful.

But slow courts?
Not like no ones noticed so it must be a message for the newbies. :)

Federer should be able to pull it off against players below his ranking but when he faces Murray, Djokovic, Nadal, not sure how he is going to do it.

I was already excited to see "Fed's Last Stand" this year. If he starts attacking the net...oh my. This will be fun.

I could be wrong but AO when Edberg won them used to be grass courts.

When Edberg played the AO it was anything but slow by today's standards, and that applies to either surface he won it on.

Today's Hewitt v Fed match today gave a good glimpse of how their rivalry could have continued under the older faster conditions and without the new technology strings. Fed is lucky the new tech strings came along when they did to give his flashy game the much needed consistency.

The Hewitt v Fed match today looked like a 90's match.

The two Australian Open's he won were on grass. (He did however make 3 other AO finals on Rebound Ace court).

Edberg won AO while it was played on grass, which was fast surface.

Even Yannick Noah won FO playing S&V.

Funny, this was more of a commentary on people saying courts are NOT slower at all and one of the best ever saying they are slower.

Good discussion regardless.
