Now that Fed is almost assured of around 200+ consecutive weeks at No.1 by year-end (189 now, but 15 more weeks till Dec 31), an interesting thing to compare this with is with Sampras' 286 weeks (although NOT consecutive, rather aggregate) at No.1.

Vote away :)

I think there is a big chance Fed will actually surpass that 286 aggregate with 286+ consecutive at No.1...which is VERY scary indeed.

Dude, Sampras never had 286 consecutive weeks at number 1. Are you stupid or something ? Federer is holding the record of longest streak at number 1 surpassing Jimmie Connors not so long ago.
Edit: Sorry, I misunderstood your post. I get what you're trying to say now.

Sad that I am called stupid because you have not read my post properly. :(

AMEN !!! helloworld - Sorry to say but Kim is right on. If you know you're gonna call somebody a name, it would be a wise idea to make certain they are indeed mistaken, which in this case Kim was not.

He did edit his post and apologize at least.

And yeah, I've been thinking about him passing Sampras in consecutive weeks for the past year now. I love looking at the numbers and for him to do that would be, I think, along with all his slams, an easy benchmark for G.O.A.T.

People will always give a vote to Laver because of his 2 natural grand slams, but there was not nearly as much depth to the field back then.

Personally, I think it's a damn shame so many are talking about Roger as the GOAT this early. Granted repeating Wimbledon & the USO 4 times in a row is tremendous but he still has a way to go and it would be nice if the Media for just once waited until something actually happened B4 they start the Band playing.

They ruined so many promising careers with all the Hype talk that does nothing but put unnecessary pressure on the Player.

Capriati - she was only 14yrs old and they were talking her beating Graf & Seles
Roddick - As being the Heir apparent to Sampras / Agassi
Blake - Much in the same light as Roddick and it's obvious James doesn't have the skills quite yet to challenge for the big stage.
Hantuckova - The worse thing she ever did was beat Hingis in IW. They couldn't stop talking about her, expecting she was going to win everything from that moment.

What is amazing and a testament to Roger Federer is, he hears the expectations and still delivers, other than the French so far. I fully expect him to win the French someday but we all know him winning the French HAS got to be against Nadal or it will have an asterisk next to it.

If he can sustain his No.1 uninterrupted for another year and a half...then he has it. I think this is realistic, although not as sure as day :)

It does not have to be against Nadal.. I mean WHAT IF Nadal gets injured from now on (hopefully not), and simply fades? You can't take away anything from a possible Fed FO win in this case.

At least he has already beaten Nadal on clay at Hamburg.

No chance in hell. The tennis he is playing now is not #1 tennis. He is getting lucky beyond belief. He hasnt played tennis this bad since 5 years ago, but his aura is winning his matches inspite of his dumbed down play now. It will catch up to him.

Nadal or Djokovic will be at #1 soon I hope.

I think you are a good poster who occasionally tends to make obnoxious statements. I have been reading the same thing over and over again from you. The truth is, Federer's forehand hasn't been quite the same most of the year. However, you have to give him credit for playing smart and making adjusments when neccesary. But you make it sound like he's "luckY." If winning matches for Federer would have been such a lottery, I assure he would be losing a lot more matches. And before you say that Djokovic couldn't close out last night, well, let's say he didn't choke as bad as he did. Let's say he won the first set. Don't you think Federer would up his game then? Everyone knows Federer can just get into another gear very quick. We have seen time and time again, especially in US Open Finals. So please stop cheapening his accomplishments. And, "no chance in hell?" No chance at all? Nadal is still a couple thousand points behind. I personally hope he gets to number one soon, but Federer has no chance in hell to cling on?

I believe he will hold on to #1 for quite some time; the so-called competition (one in yesterday's final) lacks the ability and Federer's level of talent to be a serious threat to his grip on the top spot.
