Fedal GOAT debate ended.

G.O.A.T.
Federer unique GS achievements vs Nadal - 4 to 2.

Fed:

* most slams
* won 2 different slams 5 consecutive times
* won 3 different slams 5 overall times
* 5 consecutive US Opens

Nadal:

* most French Opens
* most wins(9) at any slam

You can talk about H2H, but that only would have come into play if 'unique achievements' were equal. No way Rafa is getting 2 more unique achievements.

For strict comparison purposes, I think you should just be tallying Majors wins, finals appearances, SF appearances...maybe QF appearances.

Saying things like "won 2 different Majors 5 consecutive times", "won 2 different Majors 5 times total" seems like you're creating artificial dicing of stats and kind of double-counting.

You could also include Nadal's 9 consecutive years winning a Major to Federer's 8.

I honestly don't think this win made any difference in the conversation about GOAT. For those who were already convinced Fed's GOAT this just reinforced it. For those who thought that the skewed 11-23 W-L against Nadal detracted from a claim to GOATness, one additional win doesn't make all that much of a difference. At the end the only winner is Pete Sampras who is happy that he is still #2 in the total GS wins total.

You are right. We should stop creating artificial stats just to bolster our favourite players.
