I´d like to know mr. Federer´s and Nadal´s basic grip. I´ve heard that Federer uses an eastern forehand (others say Semi-western). Nadal uses semi-western if i´m not wrong. That allows him to add powerful topspin to his every shot.

Everyone will say different things on this subject...in my mind Fed is somewhere in between a Eastern to Semi-western forehand...with an eastern backhand......Nadal uses more of a full western...to an extreme one on his forehand to generate a lot of spin....

I'd call Fed as having a more extreme backhand than that, and his swing path definitely wouldn't work with an eastern, so he's using a semiwestern on his forehand.

I'm not sure, but I think Nadal uses a semiwestern FH grip. It's what it looks like in pics and it would seem to make sense with the reverse FH he uses all the time.

(aside: McEnroe was talking about the reverse FH yesterday and didn't know that it was called a reverse FH, but he at least knew its function)

??? What´s that? A reverse forehand. Explain to me, please.

Alright, Med. A 'reverse forehand' (AKA Buggy-Whip Shot, AKA "Snake") is a forehand that follows through almost straight up. That puts a lot of topspin on the ball, and allows you to create interesting angles. Nadal uses it almost exclusively, where very many pros use the reverse forehand on the run.

It looks more like a Full Western to me.

Forget The one two grip system!

One must be abel to play all over ther grip systems!

Have your basic grip, but be willing to change in the 911 panic!

The racket grip has 8 sides and a player must know them all!

A grip is like a racquet, find the one you're best with and stick to it. Sure, it's fun to try the others out but in the end the one you play best with should be the one you use consistently (of course barring the necessary changes for slice and serve). Anyway, I don't think this discussion really belongs in this thread. As to the question at hand, Federer uses a semi-western forehand and an eastern backhand; Nadal uses a western forehand and I'm not sure about his backhand, I think it's between a semi-western and a western with the way his stroke looks.

I've been studying the amazing high speed footage of a Federer forehand shown during Wimbledon and he appears to be between eastern and semi-western. That is seriously the coolest tennis clip I have ever seen. You can see the fabric on his shirt whipping in the wind as he swings.
