Federer 4th Round Clumpse

Roger Federer had fought a lot of 5 set battles in the 4th round or before recently in Grand Slams and before his dominance with Nalabandian and so on.

Assuming that Roger Federer gets through Montanes, do you guys thinks there is a change that Federer will face a 5 the setter by either Hewitt/Baghdatis? Since there is a likely trend and the battles seem to really start in the 4th round.

I honestly think that the real test will be against Davy in the QF. I wouldn't be surprised to see Fed come back after losing the first two sets against him.

Clumpse means a breakway point...as in that is where Federer faces action and wakes up.

Hewitt did take a set from Federer at the US open last year and Marcos Baghdatis seem like he is back. It is quite possible for Fed to be pushed to 5 sets from either one of them. I think experience will help Federer defeat them in the end.

Yeah, interesting point. I'd like to add that Federer often puts up a dominant QF performance (straight sets in all the cases you mentioned) after winning a tough five-setter in the fourth round.

2008 AO: Defeating Blake in straights (QF), after beating Berdych in straights as well (4R).

2008 US: Defeating Müller in 3 sets (though I admit it wasn't a great match from Fed), and outplaying Djokovic and Murray consecutively.

2009 AO: Fed absolutely demolished Del Potro after that terrible match against Berdych.

2009 FO: Good match against Monfils in the quarters.

So all in all, after tough matches Federer generally beats opponents considered to be very dangerous pretty easily...

Davy, beware!

I think Fed will be on his toes, he has to know there's only so many times you can escape being knocked out of a tournament.

The way Davydenko is playing it is very insane. Now I am doubts if Federer un-god mode can beat him!

I want Hewitt to beat Baghdatis and finally get his first win over Federer since that 2003 Davis Cup semi final epic. It's long overdue.
