I am surprised that no one has mentioned that if Federer and Djokovic meet in the final, it will be the 6th time that they have played at the U.S. Open. Their rivalry would overtake Lendl-Connors and Lendl-McEnroe for most matches at the U.S. Open or any rivalry at any grand slam for that matter.
It would also be the first rivalry where two players have played against each other three times in the same year at Grand Slams in two different years. They also did this in 2011.
Of the 15 rivalries in the open era where two players have played against each other three times in the year at Grand Slams, Federer is apart of 4 of the rivalries. No other player is even apart of two of these rivalries.
