It is kinda sad to think that in the last 6.5 years, Federer has won the same number of Grand Slams and Masters Series that he won in 1 and 2/3 years in 2004 and 2005.

He has won 5 Grand Slams and 7 Masters Series tournaments since October 2007.

He won 5 Grand Slams and 7 Masters Series tournaments from January 2004 to September 2005.

I think it is pretty cool that he has been able to win as much as he has after passing his peak years...not to mention he has advanced deep in almost every major tournament during that time putting himself in position to win on a consistent basis.

I was afraid he would retire 5 years ago...now I just enjoy the fact that he is still out there playing at top 5 level.

Federer did exude a fragility(crying) after the 2009 AO loss that would point to the possibility of an immediate retirement in the face of the Nadal wall. That he stuck with it and won the Channel Slam immediately after that speaks volumes to his character. That period(08 Wimbledon to 09 AO) was the toughest of his career since becoming a highly touted player(c. 2002). It would have been EASY to to just retire and not face the pain of continued losses and seeing Nadal just whiz on by his slam #. He may still be passed by Nadal in the next 2-3 years but he'll feel a lot better about his place in tennis history having stuck it out all these years.

Got most in weak era. What's new?

or strong era

Or all top 4 are equally average today, but Fed at his peak was above average.

It's relative, depends how you look at things.

But the fact, that some "weak era" guys Ferrer and Wawrinka have most success in last years, suggests today is weaker. No young guns to challenge top guys. And at their peaks, Fed did dominate Ferrer and Wawrinka. So, this means Fed was actually above the rest, now he declined, plus surfaces change slowed down his domination.

More people contending for majors doesn't mean tougher era. It can meant lack of dominant champion and all guys are equally good, yet none above average like Fed, Laver.

It's called decline, it's normal. Peaks never last. Djokovic won the same in 2011 than in the rest of his life.
