Federer and Grand Slam Records in 2012

With his victory today, Federer won his 60th match at the Australian Open. He won 60 or more matches at the U.S. Open. He is one of only three male players to win 60 or more matches at two different grand slams. If he wins one match at Wimbledon, he will have won 60 or more matches at three different grand slams. If he wins one match at the French Open, he will have won 50 or more matches at all four grand slams (no other male player has even won 50 or more matches at just three grand slams).

If he wins 5 more Grand Slam matches, he will overtake Jimmy Connors for the record of most career Grand Slam match wins.

Meaningless. The only records that mean anything that Roger hasnt done:

- 2 wins at all four slams (joining Laver and Emerson)
- 7 wimbledon wins (joining Sampras)
- and of course the Calendar Slam (join Budge and Laver)

Another extraordinary feats by Federer. These records will be very difficult to break in the future.

2012 is over. Let's look ahead. Nadal replaces Federer in history in 2013, because Nadal/Federer are currently tied at 8 STRAIGHT SLAM-WINNING YEARS. Nadal makes it 9 STRAIGHT in 2013, owning the record forever (and most likely extending on it for many more years).

And why is that record so important?

You mean a 31 year old has 6 more slams than a 26 year old? WOW, now THAT IS AN ACHIEVEMENT!

What is a GOAT? I never see this at the ATP tour site.
Ivan Lendl and Andre Agassi only won eight slams in their entire careers, two more than the difference between Nadal and Federer - that's a vast difference considering both players are all time greats.

Call me when Nadal loses at Roland Garros again  , you'll buy several phones between now and then.

But there's no certainty that he's going to win Roland Garros in 2013. Djokovic came awfully close this year, and Nadal has been out for a while since.

He can't comprehend that obviously, but one can still say it's likely Nadal is going to win RG again. The real problem is that the kid will go on about it for decades as if it's an extremely important record, or that one catapults him above everyone else or other records such as Fed's SF streak. It's a great record but it hardly flushes away any other achievements, and certainly isn't the sole criteria for consistency. Personally I don't remember anyone emphasizing this that much when Fed got to 8 straight years.
