As we all know, by beating Tommy Robredo last night, he tied Jimmy Connors for the most consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinals with 27.

Federer already has the most consecutive Grand Slam semifinals with 23.

Federer already has the most consecutive Grand Slam finals with 10.

How sad it would be if Nadal wins the 2011 Australian Open and has the record for most consecutive Grand Slam championships with 4.

I suppose Federer can take comfort in knowing that he is tied for the most consecutive championships won at Wimbledon. He has the most consecutive championships won at the U.S. Open.

He can also take comfort in knowing that he has the most consecutive finals at Wimbledon. He is tied for the most consecutive finals at the French Open. He has the second most consecutive finals at the U.S. Open.

He can also take comfort in knowing that he has the most consecutive semifinals at the Australian Open. He has the most consecutive semifinals at Wimbledon. He has the most consecutive semifinals at the French Open.

Why bother..

Rafa deserves respect, since he's doing great things. i don't care enough about this stuff. For me, Federer is the best that ever played. He could have been ranked 10 in the world.. his variety, his way of making it look easy, the perfect service motion.. It just adds up for me.

50 Slams won't beat that.

great post

I really hope that Nadal doesn't win the AO because it would be annoying, but only because of all the *******s.

Just one question:

Do you want Federer to have ALL OF THE GS RECORDS?

What is it with some Fed fans? They act as if Nadal winning four in a row is the end of the world when Fed has like 90% of the tennis records in the open era and of all time? Are you THAT INSECURE?

Federer is the best ever. And his game proves that (supported by his records).

Oops, I just opened a can of worms...

Getting to the QF by beating Robredo, shows exactly how difficult and important the WTF is. You don't really face anyone of real quality until the quarters of a slam. WTF it's immediate. WTF should be right up there with slams.

and you have Nadal as your avvy lol

I agree. There was a time in which it was the slams. Still, Federer doesn't have all the records. He doesn't have the slam count record (19), he doesn't have the Wimby-RG or RG-Wembly records (5 and 4 I believe), doesn't have the Grand Slam, just a career version of it.

Still, he's better than Nadal because of his game

I think he'd rather that Fed had them so that the *******s wouldn't have something else to cling to in the claim that Federer isn't as good as Nadal..

Well first of all Nadal would need to win the French to have the record for most Consecutive Slam Championships in the open era, winning the Australian would tie him at 4 with Rod Laver, in order to get the actual record he would need to win 7 in a row as Don Budge won 6 straight from Wimbledon in 1937- US Open in 1938.

Secondly...Heaven forbid Federer not have every single tennis record on the planet.

First, everyone needs to understand this record.

Roger Federer played and reached the quarterfinals of 27 consecutive majors.

Jimmy Connors reached the QF of 27 majors in which he participated in between 1973 Wimbledon and 1983 French Open. HOWEVER, and a it's a BIG HOWEVER, Connors did not play in every major. In fact, he did not play in 12 majors during that time.

So Federer's achievement is miles ahead of what Connors did. Miles ahead.

consecutive = without interruption. Quite a difference when Connors routinely skipped the Australian and French. (Somehow don't think that streak would be intact had he played those events.)

And to put a further note on this. During Federer's streak of 27 consecutive appearances in at least the QF, he won 14 majors. During Connors streak he won 7. Again, big difference!

LOL at the panic of the *******s at the thought of Nadal winning the Australian Open. You know just how important a Nadal win here would mean to the whole GOAT stuff that goes on.

Still, Federer doesn't have all the records. He doesn't have the slam count record (19)

Federer does not have all the records (yet). But he does hold the record for most # of majors (which are still commonly referred to as "Slams"). Federer ahs 16. Ken Rosewall has 8 (none at Wimbledon, I might add). Rosewall does not have 19 "Slams". He has won 18 major titles, if you count singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

I am not sure what the RG-Wembly record even refers to. I know there used to be a pro event, long since defunct, played at the indoor Wembley arena in London.

Federer does not have a Grand Slam (as Laver, Budge, Court, Connolly, and Graf do). But he has won the 4 major tournaments at least once. And he is the only man to have successfully defended three major titles.
