"FEDERER AND NADAL ERA IS OVER" ....... Says NIKOLAY DAVYDENKO

Sunny014

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal dominated tennis for a few years before Novak Djokovic joined them but former pro Nikolay Davydenko who played against all three believes the Fedal era is over.

It's been a few years of slow decline for Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer and while many would caution against counting them out former pro Nikolay Davydenko believes their era is over. There Davydenko explained his comments in an interview with Eurosport saying that he believes that it will be very hard for them to climb to the top once again:

"It will be difficult for Rafa and Roger to be back. I don't think they can win a five-set match. They are slowing down."

It's far argument that is backed up with some facts as both Nadal and Federer have not looked as sharp as before in recent years. Both of them are dealing with chronic injuries that won't help them in the long run and it remains to eb seen in what shape they both come back in 2022. Fans are hoping for some more highlights for them and while we migh get them it's hard to see how they can become what they were at their peak.

I think if Rafa is healthy he has one or two slam in him but with Roger, outside of grass will be very difficult

Federer is done. I’m actually hopeful that he can play something close to a Slam-contending level but no chance that he has the physical capacity to win 7 straight Bo5 matches, especially against big servers who can make the matches go to TBs.

Write off Rafa at your own peril. RG 2020 was less than a year ago. He has looked done at least 5 times before. He is not going down without a fight.

Nadal is favourite to win slam race. If Federer gets fit ill back him to get another Major. He guy who ended this season a broken man looked to be Djokovic. It is revealing all his friends are comig out to prop him up lol. feel a bit sorry for him now. He needs to be left alone a bit.

The Fedal Era was over in 2011, and had a special encore one season only 2017 run.

In regards to them winning slams though, Nadal has a shot at RG and Federer an outside shot at W. I think next year will be the last year for them to possibly get that elusive 21 and only at their fav slams will it be possible. Their bodies are breaking down faster than they are recovering, and it's only going to get worse. But they are 35 and 40 respectively, it's remarkable this conversation is still happening, but the gap between them and the younger guys is now closed IMO.

Also it does look like now Djokovic will win the slam race, this year was massive in race. But lets see how it plays out.

Tell us something we don't know. One is 40 and the other is 35. Their time is over, that should be clear to even the most fanatical fan.

If Federer gets his knees back to 2018-2019 level he will definitely thrash the field outside of Novak.

Roger Federer even at 40 has the reflexes to smoke the entire field except Djokovic.

Yep, hence why he will target Wimbledon again.
In a perfect world where Fed is fully fit and some wild guy like kyrgios takes out Novak at the AO/USO or something like that and if facing someone like Thiem or Zverev in the final Fed would still have a chance you know ....

Just saying, the probability of this happening is as good as 0, but not entirely 0.

Well, lets put it this way, Federer wouldn't still be competing if he knew his chances were 0. They are no great, sure, but they are not dead in the water either, he needs a lot of things to go his way, but really he is looking for it to just happen one more time.

Yes
I guess the field is so third class that Federer still fancies his chances :D

Thats why I say, had 1-2 ATG arrived in 2015-2016 winning slams or even in 2017-2018 winning Slams then Federer would have retired then and there, Nadal would have skipped all slams except FO and Novak himself would have returned from his injury gap in 2018 and found formidable winners to beat, he would have got constant beatings in 2019-2020 and would have perhaps retired at the end of 2021 as well after having failed many times.....

This is what would have happened in an ideal era where there were younger ATGs 6 years below Nadal and Novak, Big 3 would all have retired with 17 (Fed), 16 (Nadal) and something like 15-16 slams (novak).....

Djokovic is far from "a broken man". He just won three Slams for God's sake. Back to the topic though, hoping that Nadal gives another good go in 2022. I don't think Federer can pul it though.

Federer’s timing was absolute crap for his whole ‘21 Wimbledon run, and he still made the quarters. If he can find just a little better timing zone (closer to his usual), then yes he has as good a chance as anyone in the field.

At this point (maybe, it's taken me too long) I've finally counted both Roger and Rafa out of ever returning to World #1. Once Novak relinquishes it, I also don't know if he'll return to that pedestal.

But I still give Roger a slight "puncher's shot" at one more Wimbledon, and think that Rafa can still be a big factor at up to two more RGs and possibly one more USO.

I think he's being obvious. More to the point, I think he is leaving out Djokovic. Unlike Federer and Nadal, he has no weapons as powerful as his ability to put the ball back in to play. He's more dependant on his health and speed than even Nadal, and we are already seeing both fail him.

He's right they're simply too old to cut it through one five-setter, let alone several in a row. Most people on here don't realize how much of a factor it is.

Roger is done. He's not winning a major anywhere.

The question is, can Nadal go easily all the way at RG? No way he sniffs another at USO. It's a wonder he got four really.

It really isn't if you pay attention to how well he plays in New York.

Even Nikolay's pet bear whom he adopted one slightly intoxicated night knows that. They've been old for ages.

Don't say that
I know, but it could very well be.
They will only play each other if they're feeling they can win at the same time and that's super rare these days.
If not there's 70% chance that someone will withdraw before potential match depending of the surface/tournament or if the last match was 2+ hours.

Was it Federer record over the last two years or Nadal losing at RG that made the penny drop for Davydenko?

And still, he made it a four out of five finals. Compare with Wimbledon and especially AO. I wouldn't say he played much if any worse in Australia or Wimby. His USO results stick out. I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking he either overachieved in NY, or underachieved in Wimby and Ozz (bait, will you), or little bit of both.

Too early to call for Nadal. He will play two more FOs for sure. If he loses next two - i will say he is done.
Depends on really what happens to him in the next RG IMO, if he wins or loses very close to the end, like he did this year, then he will give it another shot for sure at RG, however, if he struggles and loses earlier due to his ranking also dropping and him having even more tougher draws than before, next year could be it for him also. His body is breaking down rapidly, the way he couldn't do anything post RG is telling.
