Yeah, I think Uncle Toni has become a PR machine now, more than before.....since his coaching days are over.

He speaks a lot of crap. Moreso than Djokovic's father ever will.

If you read the article, he admits his nephew is nothing more than a clay court specialist.
It was your job to make him an effective all-court player, Toni.....and you failed at that.....just like you are failing with Felix.

Tennis is NOT about what you prefer to play on. It's about overcoming, adapting, improvising.....like boxing.
You failed your nephew.....Uncle Toni.

Nadal and Federer might have transcended tennis more than Djokovic did, but sadly (as a Nadal fan) Djokovic has transcended the greatness and success of Nadal and Federer :sneaky: and at the end of the day that's what matters, the "aura" and fans will go, but numbers and records will remain

"Transcends tennis".....in what way ?

What I saw, when Djokovic won his #23, is a bunch of GOATS going out of their way to witness it. Brady, Tyson, Mpabbe, Ibraimovic etc.....Greatness recognizes greatness.
Didn't see any of these guys at the Laver Cup......nor when Rafa broke ahead in the slam race.....
When the money stops coming in from sponsors, which it will, which means the publicity machine stops.......we shall see who will "transcend tennis" more Mr Toni.

You realize that Federer hand-crafted both of them, right?

Without Federer, Djokovic is not Djokovic.

Does that help...?

Toni getting people mad and loving it

All three without eachother, are nothing. This I will agree on.
But saying that they "transcend tennis" more than the other, is absurd, and a simple marketing trick.
because the way I see it.......the legacy of Federer AND the dirt king, ain't looking to good in the future........

Nadal is top-ATG, one of the greatest all-court players in tennis history, his versatility is outmatched only by GOATs. What are you talking about?

Don't agree with his injury excuses - injury resistance is part of the package as a tennis player - and before you discredit it as luck, it's not like tennis ability by and large isn't a result of luck. As for his statements about the surfaces, the tour is as it is, and I agree it's up to Nadal to adapt to it. But at the same time, clay is as it is and as it has been - one of the surfaces, no greater or lesser than the others - no need to prop up or discredit the surface to fit one's agenda. A slam is a slam and I don't care about the stupid clay skew.

I can agree with the statement that Federer "transcended" the sport more if it means he played a brand of attacking tennis the fewest can replicate - but it doesn't mean I think he's the GOAT. At the end of the day it should be based on who wins the most.

Federer has transcended tennis several tiers above anyone else.
In every way.

Man, show some sympathy.
It's much easier to suffer when you are not alone.

Emotional support is priceless in these hard times.

This came out from his own mouth.

“My nephew always plays three Grand Slams on the surface he doesn’t do well and one on the surface he does well.

:-D

Field day with Toni statements we could have now.
"Not doing well" = 8 GS titles, 2xCGS. :D

Fact is, Nadal NEVER dominated any era. Whether that be the Federer era (2003-2009) or the Djokovic era (2011-today). He had 2010 at most. He was a disrupter, NEVER a conqueror.

And it's Toni's fault that this happened, more than anything.

he will always be the third wheel.....and it was his own making.

Read the article. Toni basically saying his nephew is a clay court specialist.
Rafa is clay court specialist. Beside that, he is one of the most versatile players in tennis history. We don't have to take away from his non-clay success to push up his clay success, he's already a clay god.

The TLDR version (dont shoot the messenger, this is effectively what is says in the article):

Highest level - Federer
Statistical best - Djokovic
Moral victor - Nadal
This is what Toni means, and I don't think anyone can disagree with this.

Add the fact that Fed is the most popular player ever and brought in more fans to the sport than anyone -- that's what makes him the GOAT.

It's the same reason why Michael Jordan is considered the GOAT over Bill Russell

Nuncle went on to add:

"I think the one who has managed to play at a better level and do more difficult things is Federer."

I need to state that Mbappé and Ibrahimovic aren’t goats of anything.

Nah, those are easier things to do when you're 6 years younger than your rival.

He probably means Federer pulled more extreme/impossible shots that only a GOAT can do

ROFLMAO comparison with Michael Jordan, who retired, than came back after like 18 months, won 3 in a row... again... was the best player in the league at the age 33-35.. was clutch af and never ever choked 40-15 style.

No buddy....it doesn't work that way. Bill Russell and Jordan DID NOT compete against each other.

Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer did. Therefore a DIRECT comparison can be made between them.

And let me just say. Who exactly says that Federer brought more people to the sport exactly ?

For me it was always the great players of the 80's/90's who made me pick up a racquet.

Even if you disagree with what I said, the closest thing we have to a "Michael Jordan" of our sport is Federer, which is undeniably true. That's the point I was making.

Even Toni Nadal agrees Fed is the GOAT, as stated by the article

No he didn't call Fed the GOAT. He hasn;t got the cahoonas to say that, as his nephew would have his guts for garters.

Michael Jordan is the GOAT because he was clutch, and smiled at the face of adversity. Traits that Federer did not have....unfortunatley.
