Federer and Records at this year's U.S. Open and next year's Australian Open

With his victory last night, Federer reached the semifinals of the U.S. Open for the seventh consecutive year. In the open era, only Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl have reached the semifinals of the same grand slam for seven consecutive years. Of course, Federer has achieved this remarkable feat at three different Grand Slams.

If Federer wins his semifinal, he will join Pete Sampras as the only male players to play in at least seven finals at two different Grand Slams.

If Federer wins the U.S. Open, he will become the first male player to ever win two different Grand Slams at least six times. If Federer wins the U.S. Open, he will have won at least two Grand Slams in six different years. (He is currently tied with Roy Emerson for five different years.)

If Federer wins the 2011 Australian Open, he will have set a male record for winning at least one grand slam in a year for eight consecutive years. If Federer wins the 2011 Australian Open, he will have won three different Grand Slams at least five times. (No other male player has even won three different Grand Slams at least three times. )

Some of these "records" are getting ridiculous. For example people count consecutive semi-final, then when he loses, people start counting consecutive quarter-final, if he loses before that, I guess people will start counting consecutive round 4? LOL. Does it have any meaning any more?

alot of players would give up tournament checks to say they made consecutive slam finals/semis/QF of one slam, much less multiple

so yeah, it has meaning.

Too bad despite your wishful thinking Nadal still has quite a few things to do before he could ever be considered GOAT.

Too bad your sarcasm oscillator needs adjusting. :)

I.E. I was being sarcastic and mocking all these Nadal's h2h makes him goat fools

i cant agree more, anyway its always nice to see him play

How about winning 6 straight grand slam titles, because if Nadal wraps up this US Open, then wins the Australian Open that essentially means he's likely to win 6 straight slams (with RG and Wimbledon next year) or at worst he'll win 5 straight. Nothing Federer has ever done will equal that

Why do you keep trying?

6 straight slams, or slam finals?

methinks he missed AO 2010 and USO 2009...and Wimbly 09...and FO 09....

but thanks again for playing.

Oh and...Fed did have the little matter of winning 7 straight slam finals so yeah...

please stop.

tell u what...once and for all..Wikipedia up Rog and Rafa

Look under "records" or "career achievments"

Come back when Rafa's is half as long as Fed's.

2010 Roland Garros
2010 Wimbledon
2010 US Open
2011 Australian Open
2011 Roland Garros
2011 Wimbledon

That's 6 straight. The only variable is Australian Open 2011. The rest he'd be favorite for.

Sure, keep your hopes up I guess. You're a funny guy, I think you're the only **** whose arguments are dependent on future achieviments. Like they are so guaranteed to happen anyway.

Yep, just like how he was invinceable after wimbly and had Toronto and Cincy on lock.

Oh wait..that was before Da Serve of DOOM!

Don't know who said that, most Nadal fans that I've spoken to were saying he should lose early at Cincy/Toronto, to stay fresh. And he did, and wisely didn't expose his new serve.

well to my eyes, after nadal got destroyed by murray, he sure looked like a man upset to be leaving early.

but of course, a guy who hasnt won a fast HC tourney in two years wouldnt care about winning one going into the fastest HC tourney of the season would he?

Nah.

One of those guys will be crying at the ceremony. I'll post a picture of it Sunday night.

Now, let's know when you start ascending to approach the intelligence level of an ape

I would be very surprised if you didn't disappear if/when rafa loses to get consoled by your mommy for 5 days at the very least !

yes, you clown, you live in your nadal-worship room for most of the time and hence are a living proof of how delusional a fanatic can turn .

The rest of us on the other hand live in reality - which shows that one should not count out a five time champion at a slam vs a first time finalist at that slam ...

and who exactly has Nadal played? Blindly looking at statistics doesn't prove anything. A bunch of guys had chances to break him but choked badly. Credit to him for not losing his focus, but it isn't like he has been playing great returners who capitalize on opportunities.
