Federer and Records/Career Achievements at 2010 French Open

As usual, Federer has several records and career achievements that can be achieved at the 2010 French Open:

Consider: If he reaches the fourth round, he would be the 10th player in the Open Era with 700 career match wins. If he reaches the semi-finals he will become the fifth player with 200 career Grand Slam match wins, joining Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi, Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras. If he reaches the semifinals, he would tie Andre Agassi for most career Grand Slam semifinals with 26. If he reaches the semifinals, he would become the first man to ever reach the semifinals of all four grand slams at least six times. If he reaches the final, he would be one final away from tying the male record of most consecutive grand slam finals played (10 by him). If he reaches the final, he would become the only man to have reached five consecutive finals at three different grand slams (he is already the only man to achieve it at two different grand slams). If he wins, he would become only the third man to win all four grand slams at least twice.

- If he reaches the semifinal, he will beat the record for most weeks as world no. 1 currently held by Sampras.
- If he wins he'll be the only player to win every Grandslam back-to-back at least once.

You could get dizzy reading such extraordinary accomplishments. As if he didn't have enough already.

To add to it.

He can be the first guy to reach the FO Semi final 6 times in a row.
The first guy to reach 5 straight FO finals in a row.
And the big one, if he reaches the final, no matter the outcome, he will be the longest reigning number one in history.

By my calculations, semis would be enough? he'll lose max. 1.280 while Nadal can only gain 1.820.

I think he will equal it, but not break it, because alot will then depend on what happens in Queens/Halle. Roger has already got points from two 250 events, Doha and Estoril.

If Roger gets to the final, Rafa cannot catch him until the record is broken.

I believe a semifinal appearance also gives him 23 straight grandslam semifinals. The next highest is 5.

I think this is an incredible stat. Imagine how impressive this would be in any other sport. If a golfer finished in the top 4 23 straight majors. Or if any football team made the afc/nfc finals 6 years in a row (I say 6 b/c football teams only have 1 "major" per year). Imagine if this happened on the road to any championship title in any sport. That is truly a dynasty. This stat really shows his dominance.

Actually he would have 24 straight major semis in a row, and the next highest is 10 (Ivan Lendl) not 5.

Okay, right.. So with Semis, Nadal could beat him in Queens?

If Roger goes out in the semis, he'll probably play Halle too though.

But I understand a lot more is possible that way.

That is correct. If he reaches the semis, he can only tie Sampras for sure. A lot will depend on the following week and how Roger and Rafa do in Queens and Halle respectively.

But if Roger gets to the final at the FO, then he will break the record, regardless of what Rafa does.

It gives him 24 straight, the next is 10.

No problems buddy! :)

I'm hoping he makes that particular record before relenquishing the top spot. I wonder if they will give him a prize of some sort if he does.

And if he wins without dropping a game or even a point, he will become the first man to do so in a GS.

Holmes: Here's another, if I may be so bold? If he reaches the semi finals, he will have annoyed Cassius Clay more than he ever has done before. Sorry! Couldn't resist it ;)
