Federer and Wimbledon/U.S. Open Three Peat

With a win at the U.S. Open, Federer would become the first male player ever to win Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in three consecutive summers. (The great Helen Willis Moody is the only player to ever achieve this feat, from 1927-1929.) How would this outstanding effort compare to:

Bjorn Borg winning the French Open and Wimbledon in three consecutive summers.
Borg winning Wimbledon five straight years.
Lendl reaching the final of the U.S. Open for eight consecutive years.
Pete Sampras winning Wimbledon in seven out of eight years.
Jimmy Connors reaching the semifinals or better at the U.S. for 12 consecutive years.

Borg will be better than Fed, if Fed does it, because Wimbledon and French are so much more different surfaces than Wimbledon and USO.

forget about the 3 time wimbledon-us open repeat champion...think this...federer wins this yr's open, and he will have achieved something probably no one will be able to achieve in the future...and that is let alone win 3 grand slams in a year once, but TWICE...

Man, I hope this doesn't happen. But it's gonna.
i agree... but the way fed played in cnada and cinci he ....might.... somehow lose...if a nalbandian of gonzo can play super matches....or if nadal somehow makes the final .....wat about robredo....he is playing great tennis...i think he could make quaters and beat nadal

Robredo, dare I say it, *trembles* whenever he has a big match (semis or final) against top players. Just don't see him going all the way.

Federer has looked shaky, but I only see him losing in the following less-than-likely scenarios:

(1) He plays Nadal in the final. (And he's still more likely to beat Nadal on this surface, IMO.)
(2) He plays Murray and goes a bit mental.
(3) He plays Roddick when A-Rod's at 100% and Fed's only at 80%.
(4) Some unknown with a good backhand plays him before the quarters and just gets hot enough to take him out.

But, Fed's probably gonna win. I hope he at least gets tested some.

Which makes Laver's feat even more impressive.
