“I think we've peaked at similar times this year, me and Murray. We both played well at the Australian, in Toronto, in Shanghai, here it seems like we're playing well again. So it's somewhat similar I guess. The difference is I have the slam and the 250, 500 and 1000 titles, he has also other tournament victories, I've just been a little bit a little bit more consistent I guess otherwise I wouldn't be in front in the rankings but he's had another great season and it's going to be a tough match.”

Tired of Roger being so "honest" or "straightforward" or "says what he feels" or anything else that his fans like to defend him with.

But funny that the holder of 16 Slams and supposedly who considers himself the Greatest of All Times needed to remind the media that he won a 250 and a 500 this year

He trying to show that he does care about mm tournaments and that he would win small tourneys too to help him get that numero uno back!

I think he was emphasizing that he has the slam this year. I think his other major tournament victories include the other 1000 titles and smaller titles Murray has. And he complimented Murray

no love lost between these two. It always seems Federer is kind of minimalizing Murray. Sure he gives him credit, but also reminds that Murray hasn't won the major again. Roger definitely pulling out all the psyche cards, he does not want to lose to Murray again.

Wow, Federer truly is the most unlikeable player we've ever seen. Good to see him into retirement, except I would like Rafa to get the head up to 30-7 first.

That's cool Roger. I hope you are ready with your excuses once Murray schools you today? Just think of all the possible pains to justify to the media as to why you got schooled.

Federer: I got a sore leg.

Q: Which leg is sore, the same as at Wimbledon?

Federer: Ah.....which did I say that time?

Q: Left?

Federer: Yeah that left leg got sore again and also the right leg is sore too.

Q: You are the greatest Roger, we love you.

Yeah, I won't be surprised reading something along these lines after the match today. I am not sure why he has to try to one up on his opponents always? He doesn't need such talk to help him out. Perhaps mentally he knows he is about to be schooled today therefore would like to try some tactics to distract Murray. Which definitely won't work for sure.

So Murray is going to freak out and lose to Fed at the WTF because Fed reminded some reporters that Murray hasn't won a slam yet?

Yeah right. Fed is psyching himself up, that's all.

And he didn't say anywhere that he expects to win.

Aw Rogi, why must you deviate from your classiness. It's okay, Muzza will show him on court.

All he said was that Murray played well but he happened to be more consistent. You guys cry bloody murder at everything.:rolleyes::roll:

Fair read of the situation from federer. Maybe I should root for a federer win. That might be some good positive reinforcement for future decent reads from federer. ;)

Well this is true. Such brutally tough words. This psychological warfare is brutal.

I think am95 and ndal_slam_king are playing psychological warfare with us. :)

I think he was emphasizing that he has the slam this year.

Lets not forget to point out that Đoković also has a slam which Murray does not. It seems we need to keep reminding Murray that he has zero slams, even Nadal and Federer need to keep telling Murray that they have a slam which he does not. Heck, even Roddick has a slam, and Murray does not have one. A slam, that is.

ROGER HOW DARE YOU SAY ITS GOING TO BE A TOUGH MATCH?!!! Arrogant Roger should just accept that's its going to be a walk in the park... for Murray that is.

Btw I hope you guys aren't being angry at AM95, hes a Fed fan and he was clearly being facetious.

Only nadal_slam_king and Spider seem to think Fed's actually playing "psychological warfare". Need I say more?

PUHleeze. If Rafa had said this, the thread would be 8 pages long already. Rafa won't stop picking his butt, and Fed won't stop being arrogant. you live with it. I see no radical responses from Nadal fans.

That part was really unnecessary. He always sandwiches insults in between compliments. Yes, he is just stating a fact, but it's not like people dunno that.

You don't but they are radical.
As for Rafa-Had he said something like this Nadal fans would have sure as hell said it wasn't a big deal and that it was a reasonable assessment.Goes both ways..This thread seems to be a bit of a mockery of all the "Fed's arrogant" threads we've had.

Oh for the days of real controversy when men simply spoke their mind:
In 1998, after Rafter defeated Sampras in the Cincinnati Masters final, Sampras, at the time winner of 11 Grand Slams, when asked about the difference between himself and Rafter, famously stated "Ten grand slams", that a controversial line-call cost him the match, and that a player had to come back and win another Grand Slam title in order to be considered great.[30] The two met in the semifinals of the 1998 US Open, with Rafter winning in five sets. Sampras cited a leg injury as the reason Rafter won, an attitude that upset the generally mild-mannered Aussie: "He really does say some funny things at the wrong time", said Rafter, "We are out there busting our guts and he doesn't show a lot of respect at the end of the day. He tries to play down the reason why he lost, giving no respect to the other player, and that is what really upsets me about him and the reason I try to [anger him] as much as I can."[31] [wiki]"

^I remember when Rafter and Sampras had beef. He also said before facing Agassi once that he would "pick his brain apart." When you are at the top so long, it is bound to get to your head at some stage in their career. Pete made very few comments like this though.

Just sayin...

Although if nadal_slam_king is reading this, I have nothing against you my friend, infact I find your posts quite entertaining (and sometimes insightful, no sarcasm btw)!!

I'm not sure what the OP and others want to hear.

Perhaps along the line of ...he is still the best, no? he is better than anyone, no? I may be have to improve, no? I'm number one but he is still the best, no?

I prefer honesty, even if it doesn't please everyone.

Federer can say whatever comes to his mind. I'm pretty sure he has more slams than the top 500 combined.

Actually, no he doesn't. BUT he's equal, which is still impressive. And no, he can't say whatever comes to his mind. Especially not since you know, he so classy.

You said it, it's a matter of preference. Doesn't stop *******s from attacking Nadal for his apparent "fakeness". That is how Nadal describes Fed btw, to think it would make *******s happy that he holds fed in such high regard. But noooo.

Also, I think Nadal is aware that he is beatable. So when he goes on court even to play garcial lopez he knows that he can lose. Because everyone has bad days, and sometimes your opponent is just having a heck of a day. Honestly, fed can say w/e the eff he wants, I dun really care. Unless he starts to diss Rafa then I have a problem. Rafa states a players strength before going on court, nothing wrong with that. if you are a pro, you are doing SOMETHING right. Its not like Nadal is saying so and so's forehand or backhand is better than mine. he says it's strong. And it very well may be. Fed can be arrogant and succeed. I think if Rafa started walking around thinking "I'm the best, everyone else is sub par" he'll fail miserably.
