Federer being in Wimbledon final 16 years after first winning it, would be like Sampras being in final in 2009.

This is almost as good as McEnroe reaching the WB semi final in 1992 after his first one in 1977. That's what? 35 years? Awesome!

So that's why Pete was there to watch Roddick implode!

Main problem is the lack of young guys winning or at least going deeper in the slams.

Look at it another way: fans of Djoker, Rafa and Roger all should be happy the youngsters are pieces of garbage. That means the big 3 will continue to dominate and vacuum up all the slams. Pat McEnroe was saying yesterday he thinks the big 3 will be locks for all the slams until 2022. That's 10 more slams at least!

He broke the mark established by Agassi, who disputed his first and last final of a Major in a span of 15 years and 3 months (RG 1990 - US Open 2005).
Federer, now between his first and last final, has done so over the course of 16 years. A record now in the Open Era.
However, the all-time record is held by Ken Rosewall, who played his first final at age 18 (AO 1953) and his last final at 39 (US Open 1974), in a span of more than 21 years.
8-B

It would be like Sampras playing Federer in an exhibition match half a decade after retiring and managing to win while hitting tweeners :)

This is just a huge testament to Federer's longevity, especially if he wins today. But even if not, reaching the Wimbledon final 16 years apart is incredible.

It's interesting to note that the much underrated Agassi (or Old Agassi, as he came to be known) made the USO final in 2005, 15 years after he first reached it in 1990. I know he was AWOL for a couple of years in his younger days, but playing at that level in his mid 30s, for someone who was 'merely' an 8 time slam champion, was very impressive

I rewatched highlights of the USO'05 final earlier today and Agassi was very impressive. It took a serious collection of Federer forehands to put him down. All the more impressive considering that Agassi wasn't a very good athlete or runner.

Certainly one of the best ball strikers in the history of the game. Taking it to peak Fed in spite of his back issue and limited movement, on the strength of his excellent ground strokes
