Such a tough field nowadays that Roddick was doing well against....
I see you've forgotten how good Hewitt could be back then. A prime Hewitt is definitely top 5 in today's field, if not higher.
on bbcs radio 5 live interview wimbledon winner pat cash say fedeerer better player now than the fedeerer of 2006. asked to explain the poorer results cash said its due to better competition now and that fed racked up the slams easily during the post sampras void before nadal became force and that the fields is stronger now forcing fed to raise his game.
Federer's game/ tactics/ strategies are better than ever, however no one can argue that his physical fitness/ athleticism leave something to be desired.
Now is this a direct result of being 29? Most likely not, the fact is that the top players of today are training on court, then hitting the gym, and the track.
Tennis is more physical than it has ever been, Federer is not keeping up with the rest of the players in this respect. Every other player is over coming their obstacles ie Novak, Nadal, Murray, etc.
The past players were easier to play against and did not require as much work, these players of today are not giving up as easily, and are far more dangerous and putting in more intelligent work along with a stronger work ethic.
Definitely seems like Nadal's game/tactics/strategies peaked in 2015-2016 as well (given that he was the same age as Fed in 2011) but the improved competition proved too strong for him unfortunately. So far he seems to have failed to make adjustments against a much stronger field than what we've had in 2008 or 2010 even though he's more experienced than ever.
We need to make a Pat Cash compilation. This guy is comedy gold.
- I remembered this.
