Even before the Nadal-Djokovic semi final had ended, I couldn't help thinking that if Djokovic won the semi final, Kevin would have a better chance, albeit about 20-30%, of lifting the trophy. Everything is working out so well for Kevin. He's played his best tennis in the last few days. I didn't see any hope for him against Nadal for mainly two reasons that Nadal matches up so well against him and that his wife is probably a Rafa fan. May have too much respect for the Spaniard which isn't good when you contest against him in a big final.

Djokovic of course is the heavy favourite now. If he wins, I wouldn't feel too bad about it either. He has struggled for last couple of years and has worked hard on his game. Must also admire his desire to keep coming back despite the difficult losses in last few months. I remember talking about his Wimbledon chances with some of his fans in April, that he might be ready to play his best by Wimbledon and would have a great chance to win it. It's happening now. If he wins the final, he not only gets closer to Rafael in the GOAT list, but would also have a strong case to be put above Pete Sampras. Federer still comfortably ahead of everyone else in the GOAT list.

Novak for me. This is enormous for his legacy. Given his struggles over the past 2 years and the myriad of doubters, it would be a great story.

After the marital problems (speculation?), changes in coaching staff, changes in diet, and many wondering if he lost his fire, to beat Nadal the way he did yesterday was a real statement point. He s 3 sets away from 13. 3 sets away from reclaiming the most prestigious tournament in tennis. I hope he does it.

It’s a win win for me.

I’ve come to like Novak more and it would be a great reward for his epic match against Nadal.

All the same KA comes across as a very decent fellow, so nice to see him win as well.

I think Novak will take it in 3 or 4.

Djokovic. But if Anderson won that would also be awesome and he'd deserve it so much after the long matches he's played.

Not related to me being a Fed fan. Neither result helps or hurts Federer.

Even though you didn’t include Zverev fans in your request I voted for Anderson! He seems like a very nice and down to earth person! Novak has a major attitude problem when things are not perfect! Not saying that he’s a bad guy but Anderson is a class act!

Anderson for me.

Nadal get, retain, and extend his lead in the race and ranking.
Novak will take positives from reaching form again and rankings jump.
Fed will retain 3 slam lead in the race, a very important buffer in his endeavour; and I'll be happy.
Kevin gets his deserving slam.
Tennis gets a new slam champion.
Mug gen remains put in their place.

Win for everyone.

What is this, the attack of the most cringeworthy sidekick in gaming history? Maybe I should also don the Miles Prower ava.

Novak always been my second favourite after Rog. A few days ago this would have been an easy choice for me. I would have said Novak and I am still saying Novak but not with 100% heart behind it. A small portion of my heart says Kevin should win. His fighting spirit got to me. The interview he gave just after the Isner match almost made me cry. He is such a great guy. Same thing for Novak.
I will be happy for the winner. Sad for the loser. But if I have to choose a guy to root for I go with Novak.

Kandyman hopefully has the fitness to hang. I'd like to see him win it, but Djokovic would be fine too. A good match is what counts here for me in this one since Wimbledon has been so good this time that it would suck if the final was a dud.

Zverev fans talking about attitude problems. :D

It’s different. Zverev was too young, now he has improved. And frankly he used to get upset at himself, however Novak screams like a crazy man at his team and the crowd, as if he wants to punch everyone in the face.

My apologies to Zverev fans. I forgot he has 2-3 fans in the world.
My apologies to Zverev fans. I forgot he has 20,000,000-30,000,000 fans in the world.
Apology accepted!
By fans Backspin meant humans not insects. If we are going deep into the animal kingdom then I guess Nadal has the most fans. A lot of variety too. Bulls, pigs and those awful looking big teeth animals. Federer just has giant breasted cows and goats.

Hey Octo I m joking. Don't kill me please.

Novk of course. He would relly deserve it fter ll his struggles. nd i don't think he's tret for the Fed slm record, so he cn win nother one no problem.

I won't really "support" anyone in the final but just hope for a good match.
You know, however, when we think of the ATG's like Roger, Rafa and Novak, they have 20, 17 and 12 Slams respectively right now. They've all had amazing careers and won so many times.
From that perspective, it would be nice to see Kevin Anderson taste triumph at a Slam for the first time and have a new champion.
He would deserve it this Wimbledon after his matches, that's for sure.

I am always a fan of comebacks and fairy tale wins.

1) It was heavenly watching Goran Ivanisevic winning Wimbledon beating Pat Rafter in 2001, the most unbelievable story I saw in a Tennis court.

2) Pete Sampras, was his die hard fan, winning US Open 2002. That was an awesome run. How much I wanted him to win #14..

3) Maestro getting to #18. AO 2017, five years since last major win and that too against arch rival. EPIC win and a Hollywood like comeback

4) Even though I was kinda supporting Stan Wawrinka in 2017 RG final, main reason the slam chase, it was great to see Rafa winning it after a two year gap. I felt happy about it. One of the rare occassions when I genuinely felt happy about Rafa winning RG, coz of the comeback factor

5) Now another fairy tale script. I want Novak Djokovic to win. A great champion coming back to his winning ways

Still very one dimensional too me. Can not stand him. I think he fluked his way to Wimbledon Final thanks to Fedr having one of worst days since he picked the racket..

How is that Anderson's fault? He capitalized against a vulnerable Federer after the first two sets. That's what opponents are supposed to do! A year ago Anderson wouldn't have had the mental capacity to do it. Apparently, he's been seeing the same shrink Murray and Halep have consulted with. She(the shrink is supposedly a she) deserves a Nobel Prize with the results she's managed to get out of these players who were terrible mentally in the past.

You actually don't *need* to support anyone to watch sport, you know. You can also take pleasure in just watching for the sake of it, and hoping for a good match, whoever wins.

I’m sure we all know that. For me, sport is best enjoyed with a vested interest, greater tension/drama. I can’t really imagine watching a big sporting event and not giving a single **** who wins. But definitely each to their own.

If you want Kevin Anderson to have the same amount of slams as Roddick and Del Potro then you hate tennis.

Anderson, definitely. Mostly because then any time someone talks smack about Rafa's US Open final I'd be able to point to KAndy's Wimbledon title. But also because he seems like a decent guy and playing two marathon matches like that, one against the grass GOAT, should be rewarded. Obviously Djokovic deserves it as well but I'm still butthurt about yesterday, so yeah, go Anderson!

That's another argument and i would like us to not derail the thread but it wouldn't make Nadal's US open win look any better. He won the US open without meeting a single top 25 player, if I recall correctly. An Anderson playing his first slam final and giving up before the whistle is very different from the Anderson that just went through the 2 marathon matches you talked about before playing a slam final on grass, where big servers are rewarded.

But like I said, that's for another thread.

That wouldn't change a thing. Of course, you might say that he would get upgraded from a Baghdatis-like mug to a Roddick-like mug, but they both get the same contempt from the VB, anyway. Also, as Mr Feeny pointed out, there's a big difference between Anderson at the USO and now. At the USO, he was playing his first final and happy to be there, like a Verkerk or a Schuttler. Now, I'm pretty sure he actually fancies his chances, and he probably wants to win, this time. Totally different.

It's mostly a tongue-in-cheek thing, I'm not being completely serious. I'll never go out there stating that Rafa had a hard time at the US Open apart from maybe the DelPo match, his way through the tournament (not the draw actually, on paper it was much tougher) was definitely on the easy side and Anderson folded like a lawn chair in that final. But since that's hardly Rafa's fault and people have trotted out that match over and over to rag on him, I'll enjoy the easy comeback.

Actually, strike that. He would be upgraded from a Schüttler to a Gaudio. Baghdatis was a much better 0-slam winner than Anderson ever was up to this weekend, and Roddick was an infinitely superior 1-slam winner than Anderson ever will be should he win today.
