Federer fans what does Nadal need to do for him to pass Federer in terms of greatness in your eyes?

Yep, but if Rafa has 21, that is all they will use to argue Rafa is better (rightfully so). Except the problem is they don't accept that now while fed has more...
Tennis is much more than about slams. It's about achieving things that most people have not achieved or close to achieving such as being a teenage prodigy winning 16 titles as a teenager, 11 titles in a single season as a teenager and winning 24 consecutive matches as a teenager. Also being the first player to win 3 titles for the 10th time in the same year, winning a slam event 12 times, winning Olympic Gold in the only two O Games he's competed in and completely dominating one surface, etc.

I'm on board if Nads passes him in slam count with #20 or #21 being off clay. WTF and Olympics have never meant much to me, so they cancel each other out.

Agreed, but Fed has done many things of his own as well.

Win the titles of AO, Wimbledon and WTF.
In addition to reaching at least 250 weeks as number 1, and finish for the fifth time as the best tennis player of the year.

Is this a joke thread?

No Federer fan will admit that such a thing is possible.

OK, maybe a few will admit that Rafa can "surpass" RF but only if he wins 59 slams.

There is a slight difference. When and if nadal gets to 21 or 22 federer's chance of catching nadal would be very less. But I think when they said nadal is better they expected nadal to catch federer as at this point I think nadal has better chance than Federer to win a slam which is expected as it is greatness of fed that he is still a threat at slams but nadal has been more consistent in slams for the past 3 years. At least this should be their thought if they believed nadal to be better inspite of having less slams. I have always thought that nadal is better(obviously I am his fan) but till nadal reaches 21 he is not the "tiger" as you term it.

I think add nadal or djokovic fans we should not get cocky and assume they will reach 21. 2 and 5 slams is a significant gap which at their advanced age will be very tough. Anything can go wrong from injuries to maybe next gen finding their feet. But at the end of the day for me nadal will be my favourite as I have enjoyed every moment of his play irrespective of whether he holds the gs record or not.

More lies.

Go back through this thread and count how many Fed fans said, "Rafa will be GOAT when he gets 21 slams."

Several of us said this. Again, the rival fan bases simply invent whatever the hell they wish. How do you cope with the fact that many of us Roger fans freely admit that if and when Rafa gets 21 slams, he is GOAT? Apparently you "cope" by denying what is repeatedly said in this very thread by longstanding Fed fans (15+ years).

OK, fine, perhaps Fedfans have been humbled in recent years.

After all, RF had been humbled. He used to be quite arrogant then became very likable, so maybe it´s rubbing off on his fans too?

It would be tough. The consistent results of reaching so many major tournament QF and SF by Roger would tip the scales in his favor.

Sports is about clutch and efficiency, not how often you show up...

These QFs streaks, if anything, speak against RF, because they show how many times he´s failed to clutch a slam after getting far in the draw. Novak and Rafa are more efficient.

Now this I do find annoying. Punishing Fed for getting further in Slams is wrong - a Win is better than getting to a Final, A Final is better than a Semi etc. I don't know where this idea started that somehow getting knocked out in earlier rounds is "better" than reaching a Final and getting beaten.

It´s one of those things that can be argued both ways, kinda like the way current WTA chaos can be argued as a good thing or a bad thing.

Although you get no extra titles for grace, speaking to less obsessed sports fans that will always give him an edge in the minds of much of Jo Public; he transcends mere statistics. Don't shoot the messenger, I'm neutral on the Big3.

Seriously? For starters... most slams won, most WC, most consecutive finals, most consecutive QF's, most consecutive SF's, 2nd most match wins, 2nd most tourney wins, won 5 WC and 5 USO's consecutively, most slam finals, most weeks at number one, most consecutive weeks at number one, most WTF wins, most consecutive grass wins, oldest number one, never retired from a match.

Do I really need to go on...

Greatness is about diversity. If Federer stays at 8-6-5-1, I think Nadal having any of the below would give him the greater slam record:

12-4-4-2, 12-4-3-3, 12-6-4-1, 13-5-3-2, 16-4-4-1.

It is like football, you get 2 shots and score twice then the efficiency is high. However, a team with 10 shots and 3 goals is simply better as they dominated the game in most cases.

Yes, Fed is clearly the less efficient player in numbers, but it is still better than not getting deep in the draw or simply being unable to play due to injury.

So it can be argued that Fed is more consistent, but less clutch. Impressive... and unfortunate.
