Federer winning 2019 RG by beating Nadal and Thiem or him winning Wimbledon by beating Nadal and Djokovic after this epic battle we've witnessed ? From what I've read, I asssume most Federer fans would lean more towards the second option but wouldn't a DCGS be more important for his legacy ? Especially when two of the best players on clay, including the King of clay himself, are on the way.

Wimbledon for me. Federer is just not better the best player at RG. It was awesome to see him still do so well at the tournament after missing it for 3 years, but he wasn't at the level where it'd feel like the deserved champion. Now at Wimbledon, in terms of play, he showed he has what it takes, at 37 and against his biggest rivals. I would be truly delighted to see his extraordinary ability rewarded with the trophy and him strengthen his historic reign on grass.

We must have different interpretations of "genuine." o_O

Because... truly... one oughtn't view defeat as an opportunity to curry favor, no? ;)

Well, one might.

But even so... is it then carte blanche to troll to one's heart's content? Probably not. :sneaky:
You just don't believe me, that's fair. I am a massive fan of the tennis Maestro displayed during his finest periods and admirer of his greatness in general. Even with all our bickering around here, that won't change. :)

If I'm following the "logic" of a lot of posters on this board then I would vote for winning RG again. Not only would he have better "slam distribution", he'd have multiple majors on all surfaces, the fabled DCGS, and he'd have finally beaten Nadal at RG. That's a whole flock of birds with one stone.

I'd be delighted to see a Wimbledon winner who has a decent net game, even if it's Opelka.

Before the season, I would’ve preferred Federer to win another French Open because it is so unlikely to happen.

After the French and Wimbledon are over, I 100 percent would’ve taken the Wimbledon win over even beating Nadal in a French final.

Now, however, I would take one last US Open title over any other slam title. Before 2009 I didn’t think Federer was ever going to lose in New York. As an American growing up in the heyday of the 90s American dominance of tennis, the US Open was the end all be all of the tennis year. Love for Roger to take it again.

Nadal didn’t accomplish the DCGS so I don’t see why Nadal fans would have invented this concept.
They invented if BEFORE the AO several years ago. Actually it was two people, no three who did and spread it.
They first said Rafa would be the GOAT if he won the WTF. When that did not happen, they said he would be GOAT if he won AO, it would be the first DCGYS. Every year in December or so they would start this again.
One of those three has changed his username many times. Another has changed his username once. And the third chap is still around jinxing Rafa with 100% accuracy. All three of these guys are extremely entertaining, and loads of fun. That is why I love needling them about the DCYGS thing.

But it’s a real thing, not an invention. I mean winning each GS at least twice is indeed a big accomplishment. We didn’t need those guys to know that. Now, Nadal accomplishing the DCGS wouldn’t automatically make him the GOAT, it’s not that simple. And as of now, the one who has the best shot at doing it is Djokovic anyway.

Whether it is an invention or not, their invention was that it would automatically make Rafa the GOAT.
If Djokovic does achieve the DCYGS, they certainly won't declare him the GOAT.

DCGS is a desperate invention of the VB to make Vamos the GOAT by winning just one event :D LOL.
It's utterly amazing that the world's press never mentions this "DCGS" nonsense which is bandied about here and on other tennis forums. How come there weren't endless headlines before the 2019 AO final: "Rafa goes for the DCGS!" ?? Nobody even mentioned it because it's an invention of tennis fans, and isn't valued or even thought about among tennis pundits/historians.

So winning each GS at least twice is not an impressive achievement ?

Clay/RG is stupid. #3 is stupid too (like getting to a GS final at 38 isn’t near super-human). ‘19 Wimby would have been icing on icing, but nerve strain prohibited that.

I've long been at peace with Roger not being able to defeat Rafa at RG. Nadal is such a definitive clay goat that it's not even funny. It's been nearly 15 years and still no one can beat him on clay. So those 05-08 losses don't bother me anymore.

Avenging the 2014-15 Wimbledon losses was a lot more tantilizing to me.

Another one is the Continental Slam. Which may have been impressive when there was a big difference in the grass courts.

That's not the point. Of course it is impressive. But trying to make it a criteria for your fave player.

It's like saying winning "3 slams a year" X times. It is impressive, but you can't give it a name and make it a criteria.

Of the two championship options, one was realistic, the other not. So if we’re talking realm of fantasy anything goes, has to be a shock 2nd RG title. But in the real world, chance of achieving that (even by the time Fed made semis) was under 5%. Whereas Fed had W19 virtually won and still lost it.

Honestly, it cannot be compared. All Fed fans should want that one back!

Why, because your man's chances of winning it is less ??
Sort of. But the main reason is because the RG just annoys me with it's poor organisation, no roof, no lights. Just the whole vibe around that tournament puts me off. It's straight outta the 17th century.

I'm just happy he has won it once. If he manages to do it again, great. If not, I' not gonna lose sleep over it. When he lost to Thiem this year I forgot about it after 20 minutes

But the fact that Nadal would've been waiting in the final had to have played a part in that. If it was Federer surely it would've been much more frustrating to lose that opportunity.

Especially this year. It makes no sense for a Slam to be that unorganized and poorly run. Masters tournaments do better than RG.
