Some stats /stats comparisions in the match :

1. At 5-2 federer in the 1st set :

Federer service profile : Aces - 2, 1st serve % = 42%, 1st serve % points won = 100%, 2nd serve % points won = 45%
Hewitt service profile : Aces - 2, 1st serve% = 58%, 1st serve % points won = 43, 2nd serve % points won = 60

I had federer and hewitt both at 2 aces at this stage

2. At 5-2, 30-0 , 1st set, federer serving ,

box score :

federer - 16W, 8 UEs
hewitt - 5 W, 10 UEs

my count :

federer - 10 W, 7 UEs
hewitt - 3 W, 9 UEs

At this stage, federer had won 28 points, hewitt had won 18 points

the box score is wrong over here; going by them federer had just 5 FEs and hewitt had just 2 ;

I have federer with 9 unreturned serves in the 1st set, so hewitt could not have had just 2 forced errors ...

3. At the same stage above they had

Federer : 41% serves in, winning 100% of 1st serve points, 54% of 2nd serve point
Hewitt : 58% serves in, winning 43% of 1st serve points, 60% of 2nd serve points

4. At 0-1, 40-0, 2nd set, federer serving, they had :

fh winners : federer - 11, hewitt - 2
I had : federer - 8, hewitt - 2

Not sure what the statistician was doing over here tbh.

5. At 4-3, 30-15, 3rd set, federer serving, they had federer at 10 aces, I had the same.

6. This is the final official stats :

1zzi4he.jpg

Adding up the winners and unforced errors, you get a total of 164 points
Out of total 178 points, which leaves room only for 14 forced errors, which of course is rubbish.

The rest of the things seem fine.

Subjective comments :

1. Federer put on a passing shot clinic in this one. The best of them being this one.

A reminder of why he along with Hewitt and Nadal at their respective peaks are easily the 3 best passers of this era.

2. This is the match that had epic 41 shot rally between Federer and Hewit - with Hewitt finally winning it.
With Hewitt being down BP at 1 all in the 2nd set

3. Court was a bit too slow for Hewitt to be able to hit through Federer. In order to have a chance of winning on this court vs Federer, he absolutely needed Federer to self-destruct and that did not happen.

4. Federer was in control in all 3 sets , though Hewitt was battling. In the end, Federer was just plain better. One of Federer's best matches on slow HC, IMO.

5. This match had Hewitt being 1/7 on BPs.

Followed the pattern in 2004-05, with Federer just being an absolute beast on BPs vs Hewitt.

AO 2004 - Hewitt : 1/7 on BPs
Hamburg 04 - Hewitt : 1/1 on BPs
Wimbledon 04 - Hewitt : 1/11 on BPs
USO 04 - Hewitt : 1/6 on BPs
YEC 04 RR - Stat not available
YEC 04 F - Hewitt : 0/0 on BPs
IW 05 F - Hewitt : 1/7 on BPs
Wim 05 SF - Hewitt : 1/1 on BPs
USO 05 - Hewitt : 3/13 on BPs

http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/players/fedex-head-2-head/roger-federer-vs-lleyton-hewitt/F324/H432

So a total of 9/47 on BPs in 8 matches

Interesting that Hewitt was credited with that many more winners in the official stats.

Regarding point 3 I think Hewitt was also feeling the long match with Roddick in the last round. I feel Hewitt had more bite on his groundies in the SF. Looking at his form on the slow courts that year I don't think he'd find it quite that hard to hit through Federer if he was fresh,
