As Federer's career draws to a close, I remember when he first came onto the scene and won a few slams. Polls back then asked people who they thought was more famous. Kevin Federline or Roger Federer with Britney's ex coming out on top. I bet nowadays the younger crowd doesn't even know who Kevin Federline is.

Sampras had one last swansong run but it was a surprise, he was far from best player in the world

Yep when Jordan played for the Wizards he led the NBA in 40-point games in the 2001-02 season (despite missing 22 games), and he scored 51 vs. Charlotte and then 2 nights later scored 45 vs. New Jersey (#1 team in East). And that Wizards roster was extraordinarily weak (starting center Jahidi White, starting PG Chris Whitney), and still won 9 games in a row and had a 26-21 record before Jordan had to shutdown with knee tendinitis.

If he does retire, I hope that he takes a victory lap for a year and signs autographs and makes appearances and has a full year of goodbyes to all of the fans and tournaments that have made him filthy rich.

I'm hoping that this is just Federer playing down his return to take some pressure off. He does look doubtful for AO though. Trying to stay positive that we'll see him out there again.
