Federer: "I know I'll never win Roland Garros as long as Nadal is playing"

He vanquished Nadal’s conqueror though.
The worst player beating a big4 in a slam final is Del Potro (only once). So beating Soderling wasn't the hardest task.

Plus, Federer won the RG only once, so his prediction was almost right.

wait...... what ?!
are you joking ?... she was like their mother !

... of both the nadal (she was acting like its obsessive adoptive cyber-mother, which was almost as disturbing as my obsessive hating) :) and the contemporary vamosalaplayan specimens we encounter nowadays (a probable case of darwinian regression, by the way).

in other words, i suspect she laid the eggs of both CQ and OB in some obscure mallorcan swamp

you could also say she was one of the early prophets of the rusty peak injured golden bull worshipping-cult, and she kinda claimed it... even if at the time this tribal proto-religion was probably known under a different denomination.

I doubt he would say that especially considering Nadal has been injured since November. If he did say it, it was out of humility and it was probably mis-worded; it'll be extremely difficult to win, but it's not guaranteed that he won't. I give Federer and Nadal equal chances at winning Roland Garros this year. It's too early to tell, we haven't seen either of them on clay yet, but I think it's just a matter of time before Federer figures out how to deal with Nadal's game. Also, they will be seeded 1 and 2 so if they do meet, it will be in the final.

Wow....RafaGoat always scheduled his injuries outside the clay season... Nice...

Federer deserved to have a "Wimbledon 2008" moment at RG at some point during his career. Well, take what you get. Beating Nadal’s defeater to win the title is the next best thing.

Federer's special moment in Paris was at RG 2011, when he stopped what at that point could not be stopped, not even by Nadal on clay.

Think Djokovic would’ve won RG that year if he gets past Fed? I think so.

We'll never know...some things are best left as they are.
I think Djokovic winning calendar slam that year would’ve been fitting, he was dominant like no one ever was before.

You never know for sure what would have happened. Beating Nadal in Rome in Bo2 format in a night match is not the same thing as trying your best against him in a RG final. The outcome of that hypothetical match will always remain the biggest question mark.

Of course, beating Peakovic at RG is an incredible feat, but Nadal has always been a worse match-up for Fed.

But Fed wasn't Nadal's worst match up, when he beat him at Wimbledon 2008 either...He was the perfect match up for Nadal.

Nadal beating Djokovic at AO 2012 would have been greater IMO, since Djokovic is the worst match up for Nadal and he would have done in Djokovic's back yard.

But the way, looks like our little "Stallone, Fed and Ozil" group is no more.

We’ve got Federer twice.

I got plastic surgery so I can look more like you. ;):D

Ozil may return if he shows up tomorrow...

I was talking about the period when they both established themselves as kings at their respective GSs. For 3 years straight, they were both trying to dethrone each other at each other’s GS and only Nadal has accomplished that. In the case of Federer, it didn’t feel as "satifying" or "fullfilling". Soderling peaked for one match and Federer had an easy job in the final beating a lesser version of that Soderling.

But the amount of pressure Federer had to go through to even get to the final, knowing the biggest upset ever happened and this is probably his only shot at winning RG ever (which now we know it was), that alone is something that makes him the GOAT. This shows an enourmous mental strenght.

I completely get what you saying, and all valid points...but the match up issue is something that cannot be taken lightly. Tennis is about match ups, and the match up, up until AO 2017 was enjoyed by Nadal, not Federer. Nadal may have played the better grass player at SW19, but the match up was still in his favor. Federer played the better clay player at RG, with the match up against him. Credit to Nadal for doing what he did, but it is not the same IMO.

Sure, beating Djokovic in AO 12 final would have meant more considering the previous 6 straight final losses to him and no option to exploit his backhand like with Federer. One can also argue that Federer played mediocre in the final. Nadal was already in his head, Fed started nervous after the beatdown at the French few months earlier and the grass in the final wasn’t a true grass anymore.

But you having said that about match-ups would make Federer’s hypothetical triumph over Nadal at RG even that more impressive.

Yup, I am. TTW reverted me back to my first name on the site. I expect VamosRafa is patented by now. Lol. I still follow his progress now and am amazed by it. I had no idea he would have this success when I started a website for him. It was just a hunch. And I guess it was a good one.

And people laughed. Nadal had just won 58 matches in a row on clay with that win over Djokovic (and 12-0 at the French Open). Nadal had just passed his 20th birthday earlier in that tournament.
People are stupid they laugh anytime they don't expect an upset.
