Federer is now 8-3 in 5 Set matches after turning 35.
This is the real reason tho.Because he could rarely straightset journeymen anymore /thread
24-20What is his record before 35?
AO 17 Kei, Stan and Rafa.Who has the full list?
AO 17 Kei, Stan and Rafa.
USO 17 Tiafoe, Youzhny
AO 18 Cilic
Wim 18 Anderson
Wim 19 Djokovic
USO 19 Dimitrov
AO 20 Millman, Sandgren
Arguably should've lost a couple too. So it evens out. The Kandy & Djoker losses hurt like hell. But I'm also thankful for the 2 escapes in AO finals. He should have won all 11 matches
So this stat is mostly about 2017. Since then he is 3-3.AO 17 Kei, Stan and Rafa.

He had his opportunities but like the thread says, he was 35+Cilic should have been beaten in straights in 2018. Cilic was not close to getting a break in the first game of 5th but Fed would have easily broken him back
Kevin Anderson and Dmitrov are injury losses . Not even worth talking about
He had his opportunities but like the thread says, he was 35+
You can't expect to win them all at that age. It's sports, stuff happens.
Then I really don't understand your point about "He should have won all of them." Basically you're just saying he should've beaten Novak at Wimbledon. The big 3 are so much higher in talent than the rest. So age for the most part applies only when they play each other or players zoning.
Kandy and Dmitrov were not getting wins if Fed was even remotely healthy

He's at his peak because his parents worked at a pharmaceutical company, Fed devotee. But thought he was at his peak?
Anderson and Dmitrov losses don’t count for all practical purposes

As you said before, if he "should" have beaten Djokovic at Wimbledon, he "should" have lost to Sandgren last night.
This reminds me of some Nadal fans. Mind you, it's not a long leap from, "My favorite is the best even if someone else has won four more majors than him," to "My favorite is the morally unbeaten and unbeatable humble and modest goat who only ever loses if he's [insert long laundry list of excuses]."
I have discounted AO matches completely. Fed should have lost to Millman.
I basically ignore matches where one or the other player is injured - hence I dont pay much attention to the Kandy, Dmitrov, Sandgren and Millman matches.
So far as I am concerned, you should go a lot further and discount all of the matches that the ATP count as loses for Federer.
Pretty much. Typically guys like Tiafoe, Sandgren and 36-year old Youzhny have no business even being on the court with him. His 5-set wins at AO '17 and '18 over Rafa, Stan, Kei, and Cilic were incredibly impressive thoBecause he could rarely straightset journeymen anymore /thread
If someone wins 15 of 1 major and 7 among the rest that is not the same as someone winning 7+ majors at 3 of them.
Good point. But you don’t take your analysis far enough. You seem to have forgotten - or perhaps you never knew - a very important lesson that I have often repeated in these parts: if you get somewhere first, it is not enough for your followers to end up getting just slightly ahead. Rather, they have to more or less lap you. It really is that or bust. If someone wins a record 20 majors, their record stands until someone else wins at least 37 majors.
You can slice things as unfairly as you like. How about 6-0 at AO and 2-3 outside AO? That sounds even worse, go for it.So this stat is mostly about 2017. Since then he is 3-3.
Mirka wanted to sit court side for the Wawrinka matchHe came to the facilities for "other obligations,"
All younger than him.AO 17 Kei, Stan and Rafa.

duh. There's barely anyone on tour period that's older than him.All younger than him.
He's had more 5 setters with mugs than he used to.
