Federer is making noise about being able to play tennis again. Exhos...or something more?

Federer has made waves recently by saying how good his knee feels and that he's been back on the court playing matches again.

I find this highly interesting. And I just saw this picture of him--what it tells us?

He is wearing the full outfit seen in his Uniqlo profile page, and those shoes look like they've just been untied after a match.

In other words....he is really playing the game again and he wants us to know. I also think appearing in his full "official Uniqlo PR kit" is significant.

Could the miracle really happen?
He’s not returning to the tour. This picture doesn’t imply that.

why do open laces mean “just played”? my laces are open right now and i haven’t played in 3 days

Let's take the big criticism of Fed--too produced, too PR. if that is true and I concede that it is, then nothing he posts/says is an accident.

Untied laces are untidy. So if the purpose was to sell shoes or whatever then he would have laced them up. That was deliberate and he did it to show/hint something

My idea, or the possibility? lol

I agree that something is definitely implied in that photo, and that the untied shoes are likely not
an accident. Just what the message is, I don't know. Fred looks fit!

Yah he looks great. Nothing is an accident with him, and he wants us to see/know how fit he is.

And Team8 are absolutely savvy enough to not allow someone to post unauthorized and unflattering content featuring their global billionaire client

C'mon man use your noodle

i may be in the minority but i prefer to think of roger as a player that just happens to be a really good person instead of some kind of PR monster like beyoncé ¯\_(ツ)_/¯..

i don’t put him on a pedestal tho…a lot of his goodness just comes from growing up in a nice place like switzerland

Some 1 week events for former champs.. or even trying for a wimbledon doubles (men and mixed)..why not? Mac was still good in his 40s.. martina n also was around for a while.

i think y’all are reading too much into this photo.. he’s 43 yo and a day older than he was yesterday.. maybe a rafa exo .. i don’t see more than that

I think he's a pretty nice guy for sure and I've heard lots of anecdotes to support that; and nothing to disprove it.

However he was named "little devil" early in his junior career and did show some flashes of arrogance and entitlement so yeah of course he has a cutthroat side to him let's be serious...but I'm not saying that's a bad thing

Regardless, he does a great job with his image and always appearing completely coiffed and relaxed. So I stand by my opinion that the shoes are a deliberate choice/clue/teaser

Maybe some tour doubles? One can hope..

I don't think so. I think it's an exhibition with Rafa, maybe a series. Godsick talking out loud about this can't be a coincidence.

However I do think there's a slim chance he could say "well, I think I'll see how these matches go and see how I feel, maybe see if I can manage to play in Halle or something if they'll give me a wild card and see how it goes"

Ppl say "oh his knees are shot" but let's remember he's had 2 years out of the game to do all kinds of stuff that you wouldn't be able to do on tour. Namely PRP but especially stem cell therapy.

Would Raffi start playing exos immediately after retiring? Could be, but..

Rafa doesn't feel totally done to me either

He kinda walked back the retirement stuff a little in the runup to DC, saying "my focus is not on retirement right now but on Davis Cup" so I think he's also gonna "see how he feels"

I think that Fed is training to play an exho against either Rod Laver or Margaret Court. If his knee can stay healthy, then maybe he can build up to playing John McEnroe in an exho.

We might finally get our answer, folks. Peak Federer vs Peak McEnroe, who wins on grass courts? I'm taking Mac.
You got it wrong.

Jake Paul is playing Rod Laver next (on Netflix).

First he will be training in practice matches against 3-year-old toddler red ball players.

He can then be crowned the GOAT in both boxing and tennis.

Btw, I bet BJK at her current age can beat more than 1/2 the people on TTW in tennis.

'84 JMac v. '06 Fred, split the difference on WB court speed: who ya got?

Agreeing with all those that say this is most likely for exho readiness. Exhibitions are one offs every so often and a surgically repaired/rehabbed knee could probably hold up to that but a return to the grind of actual tour life? That's match after match, week after week and month after month; in all likelihood a bridge too far.

(Though with that being said, he could probably drop into the Basel main draw for the next little while and handle himself okay).

Or just play tennis, it doesn't have to be on the tour.

Just can't see him returning to the Tour - he's obviously happy with life as it is now so what would be the incentive?

Exhos seem a very likely possibility - the practice session with Alcaraz could possibly have been a rehearsal for a match for Africa. The fact Carlos was grunting away in that session suggests it wasn't just pit-a-pat stuff but Fed checking he could play at a decent level for a set or two.

As much as the idea of Fedal doubles is lovely it is something they fairly definitely ruled out back in the day.

As true fans we should probably just be pleased his knees are in a better state whatever it means for his tennis!

He has been able to get out there and hit basically since his retirement.

So when he says "now I feel I can play tennis again", we had better believe that means something beyond what he's been able to do so far.

Yes, probably exhibitions. But who knows. Outside of the new B3, how many players out there can challenge a Fully Fit Fed?

What about a revival of a real seniors tours. Seems like the perfect moment to establish such a new tour/revice an existing one.
If works really well in golf, why not tennis?
Federer being the face of this tour would be a cash cow, no doubt.

why shouldn't he play exos? There needs to be a revival of the seniors tour....I'm sure Rafa and Fed and soon, Djoko will still have some matches in them to play a weekend event or two. The original Big 3 (Connors/Borg/Mac) made it very successful...these guys have all the needed ingredients to do same in next couple years. Shoot, you can get Murray and Stan in the mix as well. I'd pay to watch.

I don't know about original big 3.

These new big 3 guys have already given everything. I wouldn't want to see A LOT of exhibition matches. Maybe 1/2 odd matches for rest of their career.

I think he's got his sights set on USTA 4.0 mens. 4.5 seemed too ambitious for the retiree.
Maybe in a few years he'll be competitive in the 40+ 4.5 as a doubles specialist.

Foger Rederer is his alias, be on the look out.

Yeah just add Thiem and we can have another Six Kings Slam lol

The exho I'm really after is a match we never got to see: Federer v Alcaraz.

I think this will happen.

Fed and his team are smart enough to know that this would generate more interest even than a Fedal reunion.

But I think Federer wouldn't want to play the match if he thought he was going to look silly or if Carlos looked like he was holding too much back. He doesn't need to convince the world he could go five sets with Carlitos but he'll want it to look like more than a hit and giggle for one set at least.

I watched the exho with Sampras at MSG. I could tell Fed was holding off to let PETE take a set. But most ppl including a lot of members here are convinced that PETE legit took a set off Fed in his age-28 season. A Federaz exho would be similar

I can see taking one or two approachs.
A fuller non-exo seniors tour--played at the Masters or other big tournaments. Could be 16 draw events.
Or a non-exo senior singles draw at the Majors.

What this tells me, is that Rosstour is probably, as we speak, in excited discussions with the folks at TW.
I can imagine that he is hoping to move this whole thread from Former Pro Players to Active Pro Players.
If that happens, it would signal an exciting new dawn to the 2025 tennis season❗
With news like this, I'm going to have to repair the satellite TV receiver on my ol' 13,000 foot high alpine hut❗
------ So Be It ⚜️ ------

Roger saw @Sudacafan thread petitioning for Big 3 to be allowed to stay in GPPD after retirement.

At the moment the “No” vote is winning, so Roger is rejoining the tour to become an active player again.
