Everyone will get old,it's natural,Roger has done so many achievements.
The only one desperate here, sweetheart, is the one posting in boldface with enhanced sizeFedfans are desperately trying to keep their sinking ship afloat. Beating Federer these days is run of the mill, it's no longer an aspiration.
I got Fed at 5 or 6.
1. Laver
2. Pancho
3. Rosewall
4. Tilden
5. Federer
6. Sampras
7. Nadal (moving up on the list in a year or two though)
8. Borg
9. Budge
10. Connors
I got the same top 8 as you, but in a completely different order. Good to see Federer and Nadal not in the top 4

Fuzz,
Let's put some things in perspective here. We've all seen the great abilities of Serena Williams who has great power off her serve, her groundies and has superb speed. Serena can serve over 120 mph with today's equipment.
My point is this, don't you think it's quite possible that much of the extra power and spin today is very likely due to the equipment? If we just viewed the women versus the men of past eras, the women today would seem to be better. However that's not true. The men of the past would have tremendous power and spin with today's racquets.
The players of the past like Laver, Borg, Pancho Gonzalez and Ken Rosewall were extremely gifted. Using the wood racquets of the past, which were heavier than today's racquets by far and had a much smaller head demanded more skill to use the racquet. You couldn't swing the same as today because the ball would be flying out of court.
Here's some video's of past players like Gonzalez, Laver, Borg and Rosewall.

This is Rosewall against Tony Roche at the old West Side Tennis Club. Notice the horrible condition of the grass courts. You couldn't hit groundies like today off the ground that way because of the terrible bounces. Often the ball would bounce at all.
Here's Laver against the same Tony Roche in the 1969 US Open final. Check out Laver's power, touch and volleying. This is the match that won the Grand Slam again for Laver. Laver was an old man of 31. He was better a few years before.

This is from the same match.

This is a video of Pancho Gonzalez, also arguably the greatest of all time. He was 6 ft three and a half inches tall with a serve that Vic Braden, who analyzes tennis strokes says would serve regularly in the 140 mph range today. He was smooth elegant with excellent strokes. He was also a tremendous athlete. Gonzalez was the best player of the 1950's and defeated greats like Rosewall, Hoad, Connors, Borg, Ashe, Newcombe, Sedgman, Stan Smith, Olmedo, Segura, Kramer. As you can see he was so tough it was scary. Look at Isner today with his great serve. Isner with very little aside from his serve is able to defeat anyone in the world and is currently number 16 in the world. Gonzalez is superior in every possible way to Isner. Better strokes, movement, volley, touch and maybe even a superior serve. Where would Gonzalez rank today?

Borg at his peak on har tru against Connors in 1979

Borg on grass against Connors at Wimbledon 1979.
Now you realize this is all with wood racquets except for Connors who had the T2000 metal racquet.

Here's an article how John McEnroe in his fifties almost beat Andy Roddick in World Team Tennis in 2010.
http://www.tennisnow.com/News/Andy-Roddick,-John-McEnroe-Deliver-Crowd-Pleasing-.aspx
How would McEnroe do against Roddick if McEnroe was 25 and Roddick was 25?
Anyway please keep an open mind.
Federer is in the vast majority of GOAT conversations. Blunders like this make it seem as if you really do not know what you are talking about.Unlike his obsessed fans, Federer does not worry about the GOAT matter, as he knows he is not in that conversation.
Just curious. Why do you put older guys above the guys of modern tennis? You think tennis didn't evolve and that competition is not better today?
Because very few people do it. Just interesting in your reasoning, not trying to debate you for this goat thing.
Also, do you think we can even compare those eras? It's almost like a different sport.
Looking forward to your answer.
Hahaha, this list is just plain funny. What a joke
Please leave these kind of lists to people witch knowledge about the game (not fanboys like you), you clearly don't know what your talking about, LOL. Leaving people like Tilden from before the open era out of your list would be a good start.

bias and hatred.
....the emotions the TW Federer Fringe embrace every day---while ignoring or attacking ex-pros who place Federer where he belongs.
Fitting.

GOD NO. Dimitrov is quite possibly the most overrated player currently. The guy has ONE title at 22. I really don't know what people see in him.
Wasn't he voted 2nd most trusted in the world only behind Nelson Mandela?
That was so funny to me.

I am sick and tired of the GOAT debate. Fedfans continuously fan the flames because they think they have something to prove. No one ever brings up the subject of who is the greatest clay court player ever because everyone knows it's Rafael Nadal, so there is nothing to fight over.
No one can claim to be the GOAT, especially Federer, who is playing in the same era as the player who totally dominates one surface. Federer has just one clay slam, what an achievement for the so-called GOAT? He is also dominated by one of his peers, so taking all that into account, Federer shouldn't even be in the conversation.

We can all agree on that he is the goat in tennis, no rocket science there, just look at his records.
But i also would say he is one of the greatest athletes/sportsman of all time. His achievements speak of themselves, but the person he is and how much he has meant for sport in general is what also makes him one of the greatest athletes.
I have a lot of people with me on that too, I googled the greatest sportsmans of all time and federer is on the lists everywhere among greats like Muhammed Ali, michael jordan, bo jackson etc etc.
we have completely forgot this in goat discussions. He is not just the best in tennis.
