Comments :

1. Lopez played excellent tennis in the 1st 2 sets and pretty decent tennis in the final set. Was below par in the 3rd set

2. Federer started off not so sharp in the 1st set. Then raised his level in the 2nd set, playing excellent tennis. In 3rd set, first game , he was down 0-40, but was unstoppable after that for the rest of the match.

3. First set, Lopez broke with a great return game. Federer had one BP, but could not convert. Lopez was the better player in this set.

4. Lopez was playing great in the 2nd set as well, but Federer had raised his level. Federer had 1 BP chance in 2 separate games, but could not convert. Finally broke through on the 3rd break point chance when Lopez was serving to stay in it at 4-5 with a pretty good return game.

5. Federer went down 0-40 quickly at the start of the 3rd, his only sloppy service game of the match. Then raised his level. Reeled off 5 consecutive points to take the game. Then broke Lopez with a phenomenal return game at 1-0. broke him again and took the set 6-1. Lopez's level tapered off after the first break.
Federer went 17/17 on service points after going down 0-40 in the 1st service game.

6. 4th set, Federer continued his streak on the service games and continued to put pressure on the Lopez serve.
Lopez was trying to hang on , playing some good tennis, but Federer was just on another level.Lopez was broken once and was down 3 MPs at 3-5, but managed to hold.
Finally Federer's success on serve was broken at 5-4,40-0 in the 4th set at 35 points.

7. Lopez was serving huge and placing it well, even going 110+ on some 2nd serves. Federer had a tough time in the 1st set, but got better in the 2nd and didn't look back from then on the return.
Lopez was hitting it big with his FH and also volleying well.

8. BH passing shot clinic from federer. Some brilliant absolutely BH passes. The highlight reel of this match is a must watch for those passes ;)
Poor Lopez was left wondering, because his approach shots were actually good.

One of the last appearances of The Mighty Fed.
Maybe his semi and final performances in the 2008 USO also count.

One of those matches where an opponent played out of his mind against a peak Federer, stayed with him for part of the match, and then Fed just took off into the stratosphere.

Like Agassi's quote about the USO 2005 final from his book - 'He took the game to a place I didn't recognize.'
