Federer News

For the Fedheads amongst us:

This is really very good, thank you for posting. I find it highly interesting that the documentary focuses a lot on the Fed-Djoker rivalry, with much less emphasis on Rafa. You can see the mutual dislike in those early big Fed-Novak matches. It's also interesting to hear young Fed so uninhibited and brass about his own talents, as well as hearing the girl twins joking with him on the phone after he won AO 2017.

One last thing: has anyone ever seen such a perfunctory Fed handshake as he gives Hewitt in that Peter Carter Cup match? Wow... cold as ice at the net. possibly because it involved Peter and the trophy carried his name.

I would have liked it if it didn't look so much like last years design which was only one design swapping around colors. I'm quite disappointed Uniqlo had all this time and still can't do anything different for their biggest star.

Agreed on the color-only swap for the last 6-months. Fed looked great in the WB18 Uniqlo white outfit as well as the LC18 blue. But it's time to give Fed's outfits a little pizzazz, some highlights. They did that for Djokovic/Nishikori.

Hmm...Maybe they have a crazy good one that is on lock-down (like WB18) until AO19 opening match, and this is just the decoy?:eek::happydevil:

@oldmanfan I don't know but if I am Uniqlo who just signed the Roger Federer who may only play for a few more years, you better come out with incredible designs out of respect of the living legend. 6 months after their contract and only having this to show is a let down. Sure, the Wimbledon 18 outfit was nice but he basically wore same shirt at the USO.

My only thinking is that Roger actually has more of a say than the designers. He may have wanted this plain look. Still if they can only update the collar then it doesn't show they put much effort into this new kit.

If they continue this, come back to this comment and see that they only switched colors off of this design for the next 3 slams. That would be funny.

I think I might speak for a minority, but the past 6 months of Uniqlo designs are exactly what I was hoping for when Roger signed with them!

He looks like Fed from his younger years when it was solid color polos, white shorts and white shoes. A timeless look.

No I can appreciate the plain colors instead of Nike's fruity designs but lets hope this isn't the only design they have planned for 2019.

It is a doc about the AO, so maybe they were more keen to focus on their other golden boy as opposed to the 1 time champion?

But it is interesting considering Australia is perhaps the least interesting venue for the Fed/Novak rivalry. Aside from that one set Roger managed to steal in 2016, every match there has been a simple straight-sets affair, and not once in a final. Funny, considering they're the best two ever at the event.

I agree. I like the way Roger has looked since Uniqlo.

He'll make it look fine, sure. But i still don't gt why? Why is Uniqlo half-assing this?
I wish Uniqlo would cut the clothes as Nike did for Fed. He looks "fatter" in Uniqlo. The shorts aren't the correct fit or length, they're not tapered enough. I also wish they would have a bit more splash to their clothes, with multiple colors, something like Novak used to wear when he was with Uniqlo:

And Roger would look killer in this shirt (minus the endorsement patches):

I think roger has gained some mass and that's why he looks fatter....
Don't you think so???
He's thin as in 2017 right now (see practice video with Kyle) and he still looks "fuller" and "dumpier" because of the cut of his shorts. Just my opinion. I'm not denying he wasn't heavier at the USO through WTF in 2018, but the cut of the shorts is just off. His "fatness" has been exaggerated from last year, it's the shorts not being tapered and too long:

Agreed. Uniqlo's shorts look more loose and 'stretchy' while Nike's shorts for Fed in recent years are more like 'cut-off' dress pants. Nike's materials seem less stretchy and thinner, giving off a thinner, more elegant look. Notice how Nike's shorts' pockets 'flare' out when Roger is on the move. Uniqlo should take note.

Here, take a look at Fed's Nike shorts from WB17 timeframe:

Flaring pockets are a more elegant look?

Since when?

Federer = elegance, thus flaring pockets... uh.. nvm :p

I didn't mean the flaring pockets were elegant. The 'elegant' was in regards to the thinner, more hugging shorts of Nike's essentially cut-off dress pants.

I just like the look created by the flaring pockets in pics of Fedr on the move. I'm a fan of comic book art. Think of Wolverine's ears on his helmet. They're not necessary at all, but they look cool :D. Similarly, Fed could be wearing caps for simplicity, but he looks much cooler with a headband :).
