Well you're only talking about 2 tournaments. 2017 he had the back issue and 2018 he was still dealing with the hand. The placement on the calendar sucks for older players and the conditions are brutal for him, but he would still work through it against someone like John freakin' Millman if he was 100% physically.Regardless of the draw, since 2017 comeback Fed just can't hit the top gear at the USO. Dont know how much is it about just not able to compete consistently towards the end of the year given his age. Then there's the drastic USO conditions which surely zaps out Fed. Never felt anything positive about USO since 2017.
This year he's good to go, his game & body has been in great shape since February, but it's his mentality post-Wimbledon heartbreak that needs to be monitored more than anything.
Good deal.Already training in NY. Hard-workerer.
I think it was, because if the loss was just due to the hangover, he probably wouldn't have cruised through his first round so easily.I really want to believe Cincy 19 result was one-off. USO draw will be huge for Fed.
Of course. Federer follows the same schedule every time before the USO: goes down there as early as possible to get a feel for the conditions and accustom himself to the weather, dials his game and fulfils some contractual obligations as per his sponsorship contracts. He will probably be at the launch of his collection at the Uniqlo flagship store too, which is due tomorrow (19.08).

Maybe this little bit of extra time will benefit him. It will be the first time in 4 years that he entered with a clean bill of health. I hope the weather isn't too hot and the ventilation is better. He said he had to work hard and it appears he's doing just that. I can't wait for night sessions again being an American and all. They have that extra special feeling or atleast they used to. Fed in the black kit hopefully slapping FH and dicing folks upI hope it's a memorable tournament this time and he brings his A game.
It will be and he will.

He also has not won a slam since switching to Uniqlo... meanwhile, Djoker since switching away has won 5...The last time Fedr lost a WB 5-set finals AND lost 3R at Cinci... he won USO.![]()

For the 4th straight slam draw, Fed and Rafa will be in the same section. Guaranteed. And the last time he got a good draw or a relatively easier draw than ,say, Nadal was.... when exactly ?
For the 4th straight slam draw, Fed and Rafa will be in the same section. Guaranteed.
But will happen. Guaranteed. That’s so random and unpredictable.![]()
As much as I would like to believ this, I find this hard to believe. Even if it is true, the low bounce is good, but I don't know where I stand on the speed of court for Fed anymore.Brad Gilbert while commentating during the Cincy final: "my guys have played on the surface and have said the Open will play a little faster this year and some attacking play may be rewarded." Then Cahill added, "the bounce is said to be lower this year, might play into Roger's wheelhouse if he's feeling good."
Some good news for Fed fans.
Why would Gilbert and Cahill prevaricate on this? What would possibly be their motive? As much as I would like to believ this, I find this hard to believe.
Maybe they heard wrong. Why would Gilbert and Cahill prevaricate on this? What would possibly be their motive?
I wish we could see this type of ballstriking again...Brad Gilbert while commentating during the Cincy final: "my guys have played on the surface and have said the Open will play a little faster this year and some attacking play may be rewarded." Not motive. Inaccurate. Who told him this? Did they play on the USO courts the past few years? Have they played on other US series courts? Have they played at Melbourne courts? IW? Miami? Why would Gilbert and Cahill prevaricate on this? What would possibly be their motive?
"That is scary how good that is." Well said McEnroe.I wish we could see this type of ballstriking again...
I wish we could see this type of ballstriking again...
Wish we could make everyone on TTW watch this. I always thought Fed was his best skill wise in these days, but I forgot how lethal he could be from anywhere on the court.Winners. Winners everywhere. Ridic level. Either of these two would annihilate the current field.

However, this also shows how much faster tennis used to be, whether it was the courts or balls.
They would say something along the lines of Agassi was old or it just looks fast because it is not HD, or something. The reaction time for many of those shots is "insane". The "Fed is currently playing the best ever" folks will deny such a video even exists.
Yep, now it is more rally, rally, rally, try and wait for an error. The shots today are not designed to be offensive.mhm. Current slow down of conditions is in effect slowly killing the game too. I mean, just look at today's majority of matches in comparison to that highlight reel. In early 2000s, (as in the HL) it was so fast, so furious, and so much aggression and purpose of shots. Different sports almost.

Fwiw, Brad says every year around this time that he's heard the USO is going to be very slow, and he's always been right ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Not motive. Inaccurate. Who told him this? Did they play on the USO courts the past few years? Have they played on other US series courts? Have they played at Melbourne courts? IW? Miami?
Who are these people he speaks of? Without knowing that, yeah, I don't put any stock into it.
Ha, I could tell you that every year and I would be right.Fwiw, Brad says every year around this time that he's heard the USO is going to be very slow, and he's always been right ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You laugh, but there will be someone that slows it down and then says "see, this is the real speed."Or the speed of the video was increased and then uploaded as normal speed.![]()

Funny thing though, that video is HD...They would say something along the lines of Agassi was old or it just looks fast because it is not HD, or something.
It seems like we're in the minority opinion on this. Every time I point out how baggy, unflattering and drab the Uniqlo outfits are, people bitterly complain the Uniqlo kits blow doors off the Nike stuff from the past. In Cincy, I liked the kit and especially the Borg-esque stripe on the top of the socks.Uniqlo can't even afford to design decent clothes for him.
Positive thinking at full throttle here, and I'm all with it. But at the USO, Roger should play like the wounded animal he is right now, angry and bitter.
Shoot to kill, and take no prisoners.
If he's faking this he's doing it well.
He's been putting things into perspective since he started winning. But as you said, this one hurts a lot and I hope Cincy was enough to get over it.He's been in the public eye now with the glare of publicity for 18 years. Since 2012, he has managed his public brand incredibly well. I find it hard to believe he's laughing while talking about the most bitter defeat any tennis player has ever experienced in pro tennis. But he doesn't seem phony here, seems legit. That is utterly amazing!
Won't matter.Funny thing though, that video is HD...

^ This +1. . Well like they say, prevaricators gonna prevaricate. .Why would Gilbert and Cahill prevaricate on this? What would possibly be their motive?
