He's been in the public eye now with the glare of publicity for 18 years. Since 2012, he has managed his public brand incredibly well. I find it hard to believe he's laughing while talking about the most bitter defeat any tennis player has ever experienced in pro tennis. But he doesn't seem phony here, seems legit. That is utterly amazing!
Because he went through it before in 08/09 probably. When you've survived it once you know you'll survive it again.

We don't know if he'll regard it as his worst defeat when he's looking back, maybe he's rationalised it somehow.

But I said on another thread, he'll have to think about his girls, who are now at the age where they'll understand what's happening to some extent. If they start to get worried about whether he wins or loses then that could affect things.

Brad Gilbert while commentating during the Cincy final: "my guys have played on the surface and have said the Open will play a little faster this year and some attacking play may be rewarded." Then Cahill added, "the bounce is said to be lower this year, might play into Roger's wheelhouse if he's feeling good."

Some good news for Fed fans.
Federer said he heard the same thing.

Not sure whether someone had posted this. From yesterday, but I saw only now.

Few nice insights. Honest, as ever. Even if cagey, as ever. ;)

EDIT: Er...

Evidently this is from 2016.

Odd video choice for the ATP to use in its article about this year's United States Open...

And who ever thought he was? They aren't friends and never have been. No tennis player will be invited aside from Pico and his Spanish buddies.
Seriously? For literally more than a decade they've been matey at every turn. Even if they weren't he would get an invite because the spectacle of such a high-profile wedding ensures some people get invited for the pure look of it/PR value.

Do we actually know how big Rafa's wedding is supposed to be? It might be really private and low-key. His girlfriend has always stayed out of the limelight, so I doubt the wedding will be about putting on a good PR look.

Bump this after the wedding. They're not mates at all, Nadal can barely speak English. Nadal himself answered whether they are friends back in April:

"The concept of a friend for me has a lot of meaning and is very powerful. For me, language is a barrier to establishing a bond as strong as a friendship, for example, with Roger Federer. We have that, the rivalry and that our habits of life are very different."

Yep, unfortunately for me, who likes both, I would love to imagine they are buddies (like their laughing promo), but they are nothing more than a professional relationship. They do have great respect for each other though.

That being said, if it is a big wedding (highly doubtful), I could see Fed getting an invite, but depending on the date probably would not go.

The piece posted by Octo suggested it would be the "society event of the year" so depends on how accurate that turns out to be.

Xisca's been waiting a long time - perhaps she wants to make the most of it?

they are tennis "friends" , but I don't recall them ever hanging out outside of tennis. Roger calling rafa to his house for coffee during wimbledon was still about tennis. If rafa invites him cool, but I would think there would be people much closer to him that he has a bond with that goes beyond just tennis.

Unless Rafa faces a zoning Cilic or Isner (doubtful), he has to be the favorite. With that being said, Fed should get to Djoker if he plays his best tennis leading up to it.
Fed's draw rounds 1-5 is absolutely ideal. If only his semi final was Rafa instead of Novak, I'd be doing backflips over this being a perfect draw.
